We have had a feral cat, Culvert Cat, who will not let a person touch him. He has chipped-like ears cause he likes to fight. We bought a house for him and put straw in it and will get in it some of the time, if he thinks you don't see him. His eye is swollen, increased today, and is a little weepy. There is no way he would let you put eye drops in his eyes. I put in a call to the vet to see if there is anything he could call in for Culvert, systemic, that I could hide in his food. He is well feed and is at the mercy of people, weather, environment, etc. My dogs hate him too. I give him worm medicine and hair ball crap intermittently. He prefers Ocean White Fish, canned, with Ocean White Fish treats on the side. I am wondering if we should try and trap him and submit him for neutering to stop the cycle. Now, we have Mrs. Culvert also. She won't let anyone touch her either but she does not hiss at you like he does. Not often, he will meow, lightly. I think he is half deaf also. Any suggestions? No killing suggestions, he is not a criminal, I don't think.

Are you able to touch him at all? Every time you feed him, try to touch him, if only for a second. I've tamed many cats this way. We have a semi-feral tomcat that will allow only me and mrs. rowdy to touch him and will even sit on our laps. When anyone else comes over to visit, he disappears like magic,LOL. The best thing to try is putting medication in warm milk. If you put his favorite food in a live trap, you "might" be able to trap him for a trip to the vet.

Be careful and call an animal rescue society or a vet for advice....they deal with them daily. You don't know if it has a disease so I wouldn't touch him just yet.....if it bites you wash with soap and water and medicate...call doc....

Here's something the daughter pulled off. The cat came from cat welfare with a weepy eye and daughter sprayed perfume in his face and some must have gotten into his eye. Cleared it up in less than a week.

No, he won't let either of us touch him. He hisses at you and shows his big teeth. My husband did break up a fight with Culvert and another cat a week or so ago with his foot. He travels through the culverts of Walnut Creek Pike. There is another family that feeds him about a mile away and they call him Draino! He doesn't like milk, I gave him egg and milk one day because we thought he had been poisoned and he just smelled it. We saw him vomiting the day, I thought he had eaten some poison. With barns around, etc. who knows what they get into. He is crazy wild. Still waiting for a call back from the vet.

Not clowning. She did it. The eye cleared up. As for the cat's life, did you know that many hunters target feral cats due to what FCs do to the songbird population? Poor feral cats, next to possum they're the Rodney Dangerfields of suburban wildlife.

OMG! sorry.
Most rescue societies trap them, given a checkup and or neutered, then up for adoption if they can be tamed.
Poor kitties.

Live trap him. Rap him up in a towel so he can't scratch you. Give him 5cc Amoxicillin oral suspension. That is 250mg equivalent.

Wipe his eye with a wet warm lint free towel like Sonatare. If it is a cut put neosporene on it.
If you know a pharmacist the med can be out dated childrens amoxicillin but not too old. Something they are to throw out but just misses the dumpster will work.

If it is his inner eyelid tissues be careful not to hurt him further.

It boils down to one thing, stupid people. They get the cats and just let them fend for themselves and reproduce, no health care, etc. Makes me angry. That is why I started feeding him, cause its not his fault. I wish Circleville would do a capture and neuter/spay and then release program. This cat is mean but I still like him. He might be possessed. Still waiting for the vet to call, I hope he calls tonight before the snow and cold temperatures reach us. Could use some global warming.

I can't believe the doc hasn't called yet...call the animal -no kill shelter and ask them if they're still opened at this hour.

Is he coughing and sneezing? It could be a respiratory infection. Yes, it will affect his eyes. Just feed him all he can eat and it will help him get stronger. While you are at it, get him some over the counter wormer.
