How about spending some of that money on residents instead? Won't vote for a tax increase if it will be used as a handout to a private business.

You know what Powell needs? NEW ROADS! The greedy developers built that place out and nobody payed to widen the roads and it takes 1 hour to get from 315 to downtown Powell because they still have the same road they had in 1935!

Government screwed that up, and they'll screw this up too. Vote Perry 2012 and GET RID OF GOVERNMENT!!

I have no big issues with using public money to bring in business, but I think there needs to be more strings attached to the offers. If the new business says it will bring in 50 jobs then it should be required to show 50 NEW jobs be created. If not then they need to repay the public money.
I see it all to many times. Company X is coming to Columbus and bringing 100 jobs. They get a nice tax break when they do so. Well those jobs came from Worthington so there was no real job increase, just a tax base change from Worthington to Columbus.

I drive 315 to downtown every day. 315 to downtown powell takes less than 5 minutes. 315 to downtown columbus takes 20 minutes. 30 in bad weather.

And, you're blaming the government because developers overbuilt the place? You are as crazy as that lunatic governor of Texas.

Government is not the problem. Private business is - MI homes, dominion, etc. You said it yourself.

I don't have a problem with the city giving some money to help a start up. Maybe tax revenues in a couple years froma succesful company will more than make up for the cost.
Problem I have is the city makes me pay for my sidewalk. They charged me almost a $1000 2 years ago to replace a couple blocks. What a ripoff. And several people on my street also got hit with huge bills to fix the city's sidewalk.
The city should pay for that. There income tax hike last year for "infrastructure" would not have paid for that. What a joke.

its not the city's sidewalks its YOUR sidewalk. The sidewalk is in your property. The sidewalk has to be maintained by YOU. Ask your insurance agent. You are liable for any injuries that occur there and the city is enforcing the sidewalk code that was in place before you bought your home. Sorry you feel you were ripped off but it is all public knowledge/law and maybe you forgot about this after you moved into powell

Wow, someone is cranky! To Billyjoe, I agree with you. Haven't had mine replaced, but my neighbors have, and they're not happy. It ain't cheap and seems unfair. I've seen sidewalks in far worse shape not get replaced. As for the article, providing some $$ assistance to a new business is a good idea. Just watch out for the Tea Partyer's.

unfair?! What a bunch of whiners. The government should pay for everything. What's next? If its unfair to maintain your sidewalk, sell your house and move to the township where there are none. You can walk on the road.

You're an idiot if you think that 315 to powell rd. takes less than 5 mins. try living around here bonehead. It will take you 20 mins to get from liberty to 315 at 4:30. and a half hr to get from jewitt to liberty by making a left turn onto powell rd traveling north on 315. You're the biggest moron if you don't think this is a problem and live under a rock!

There are some crazy pissed off people here.

I live in powell and drive 315 to downtown powell everyday. It takes 5 minutes. Maybe 10 when there's traffic from 4:30 to 5:30. Boo-hoo, traffic at rush hour. Does that mean we should put in extra lanes and roads simply to accommodate traffic during a 1 hour period? Absolutely not.

You should change your schedule to avoid the traffic at the bad time. I moved up here because its suburban. Don't make powell road and 315 into 4 or 6 lane super roads (like the disaster that is sawmill) just to accommodate traffic for one hour out of the day.

To recap - I drive from 315 to Liberty road via Powell road every single day. And it takes less than 5 minutes. So are you calling all of us idiots? You have to sit in traffic for a few minutes? Cry me a river.

By the way Scotty, 315 and Powell road are not in Powell, and are not Powell's responsibility. I'm sure you knew that. Only "bonehead's" and "idiots" don't
