Poll: Two-thirds of American voters with household guns would ‘defy’ gun laws

by Jessica Stanton

As anti-gun lawmakers push for a government ban of more than 150 types of firearms, a new Fox News poll shows that two-thirds of American voters who have guns in their household would “defy” any law requiring them to give up the guns.

A majority of poll respondents - 52%- revealed that someone in their home owns a gun. Those respondents were then asked,“If the government passed a law to take your guns, would you give up your guns or defy the law and keep your guns?”

Approximately 65% indicated they would “defy the law,” including 70% of Republicans and 52% of Democrats who answered the question. Only 22% said they would “give up” their guns, while 13% were not sure.

On Thursday, Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein introduced the “Assault Weapons Ban of 2013,” which would prohibit the sale, transfer, importation and manufacture of hundreds of rifles, shotguns and pistols. The legislation also bans magazines that can hold more than 10 rounds.

At the Thursday press conference, Feinstein stated her belief that massacres like the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting occur because of the country’s “weak” gun laws.

Nearly 78% of those polled apparently disagree, indicating that “people who commit these kinds of acts will always find the guns to commit violent acts.” Only 22%“think tougher gun laws can help stop shootings,” and 58% believe if “more law abiding citizens owned guns,” there would be less violent crime in the United States.

The poll sampled 1,008 registered voters and was conducted from Jan.15 to 17. It has a margin of error of a plus or minus 3 percentage points.

"That’s Weird: DHS Wants 7,000 Scary Looking Rifles For Personal Defense"

In Liberal World, only The Government should be afforded guns. Because that worked well in the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany...

(The Blaze) The Department of Homeland Security is seeking to acquire 7,000 5.56x45mm NATO “personal defense weapons”(PDW)— also known as “assault weapons” when owned by civilians. The solicitation, originally posted on June 7, 2012, comes to light as the Obama administration is calling for a ban on semi-automatic rifles and high capacity magazines.

Citing a General Service Administration (GSA) request for proposal (RFP), Steve McGough of RadioViceOnline.com reports that DHS is asking for the 7,000 “select-fire” firearms because they are “suitable for personal defense use in close quarters.” The term select-fire means the weapon can be both semi-automatic and automatic. Civilians are prohibited from obtaining these kinds of weapons.

The RFP describes the firearm as “Personal Defense Weapon (PDW)– 5.56x45mm NATO, select-fire firearm suitable for personal defense use in close quarters and/or when maximum concealment is required.” Additionally, DHS is asking for 30 round magazines that “have a capacity to hold thirty (30) 5.56x45mm NATO rounds.”

Critics of such a ban on semi-automatic rifles are already arguing that the government is showing its hypocrisy by essentially saying they are good “personal defense” for them, but not for American citizens. When civilians own semi-automatic rifles, they somehow become “assault weapons.”

Like The Blaze writer Jason Howerton, I don’t have a problem with making sure DHS is properly armed to deal with whateverthehell it is they deal with nowadays. Probably people who fail to properly inflate their tires and look at Wooded Owls meanly. And lord knows that the government would never over-react and send in armed government employees. Let’s see, when terrorizing a small child. But, realistically, law enforcement at all levels does need proper weapons when they enter into a confined space.

Of course, this same government now wants to take the same right for personal protection away from citizens looking to protect themselves (along with hunting and shooting for fun) along with 30 round magazines....

Those filthy progressives over at the Violence Policy Center have to be credited with coining a nifty expression: Voting from the rooftops.
