Isn't Nationwide Children's Hospital a private hospital? Why is state money going to fund them? The work they do is commendable, but doesn't the philanthropic community (a.k.a. insurance companies like Nationwide and other benefactors) fund these institutions? I think that we are crossing some fine lines here. I know that $2 mil doesn't put much of a dent in the state budget deficit, but our governor has cut lesser amounts out of the budget....
For what it is worth....
unions are also but we have been funding them and the DNC for year.
for what its worth and that is a lot.

No doubt, Cincinnati Childrens Hospital is in the Top 5 children's hospital in the country. It deserves the funds.

That's wonderful fiscal responsibility and incredible pre-planning on his part... What happened to "no funding until there is matching cuts" somewhere else? Kasich to himself - "I know where the money will come from - I'll take it from some poor old woman on food stamps. She doesn't need to eat. And right now I need to impress all of these people in suits so let's just make something up to make myself look good." What a joke.
So you're saying that it's not ok to take money from someone's foodstamp program, but it's ok to not give money to a hospital for a child in need... hhmmmm... well thought out.

Hmmmm that's funny most medical research is paid for by the pharmaceutical companies and they make the return on the medications that are developed. Why would Ohio need to give them money. They are fat cats already. What a scam. Ohio doesn't have the money to give anyway. He just wants to look like Joe Diamond Big Spender.

I am all for medical research, but leave it to a politician to solicit applause for promising $2MM of other people's money. I once saw a dem Congressman in PA speak at a hospital function and he got a standing ovation for getting the hospital a $2 MM earmark. Then he promised next year it would be $4 MM. That is when I decided we are all f-d

Then we should tax Cincinnati and move the money to Columbus to "level the playing field." It is Obama's way and he is president.

No, I would say the reading comprehension is not YOUR strong suit.
Yes, the article mentioned University Hospital in Cincy...in relation to the medical corridor type research it is already involved in with OSU and Cleveland Clinic.
CLEARLY the reference to Cincy and Akron to Nationwide Children's was for them to work in cooperation with the CHILDREN'S Hosptials there.
Now go look in the mirror and mock yourself.
Just for informational purposes, the Children's Hosptial in Cincinnati IS part of the Unversity of Cincinati Hospital system.
Furthermore, all of these state/public hospitals have been linked through various programs for decades; since the 1970's.

Another example - Nationwide Children's Hospital is linked to the Ohio State University Hospital as a two-roofed Level III maternity unit. High risk moms can deliver at OSU and depending upon the condition of the baby, they may be cared for at the NICU at Children's.

The last time I looked, Children's Hospital was doing fine financially. They don't need our tax money. Hospitals are private business. I thought King John was all about private enterprise. And then the bozo just goes and gives it to them. When they didn't even ask for it. What's he thinking?

King John was thinking that Nationwide Insurance would give the King & his court "FREE Insurance" for life.

Irresponsible. You don't govern on a whim. Giving money to nationwide to start projects with other hospitals is great, but you have to plan. Any business or government that operates on a whim will suffer. Come on John, get it together.

From the headline, I thought he was making a personal donation. Just using other people's money, but Children's Hospital is a very worthy cause.

By the way, can the Dispatch find out if he is a personal donor, and if so for how much?

EXCUSE ME! It used to be called "Childrens Hospital" until Nationwide Insurance stuck it's nose in it's business & somehow got it's name changed to "Nationwide Childrens Hospital" So if I make a donation to a company, the company has to add my name to that company's name?
