What poster TonyD2 claimed is that atheism precludes belief in the spirit world.
And he remains correct.
A spirit in which you define spirit? Maybe. But Christians do not have the corner market on what defines a spirit. Spirituality can be defined as a feeling of connection between living things. Atheists can and do indeed experience this. Which is why I brought up Native Americans - who believe in spirits, but not necessarily the kind of spirit you believe in.

You forgot Dayton, Springfield and Lima. I'm going to have to say Mansfield has more curb appeal than Springfield and Lima. At least the northern part near US 30 is pretty nice.

also

... Lorain, Elyria ...

Toledo? We'll let gokeefe chime in on that one, but the suburbs are nice.

...Atheism, however, casts a wider net and rejects all belief in “spiritual beings,” and to the extent that belief in spiritual beings is definitive of what it means for a system to be religious, atheism rejects religion. So atheism is not only a rejection of the central conceptions of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam; it is, as well, a rejection of the religious beliefs of such African religions as that of the Dinka and the Nuer, of the anthropomorphic gods of classical Greece and Rome, and of the transcendental conceptions of Hinduism and Buddhism. Generally atheism is a denial of God or of the gods, and if religion is defined in terms of belief in spiritual beings, then atheism is the rejection of all religious belief.
http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/406...
You obviously didn't read the last sentence:

"if religion is defined in terms of belief in spiritual beings, then atheism is the rejection of all religious belief."

If you took philosophy or math, then you should understand the "if/then" idea. IF religion is defined in those terms, then..." Religion is also not wholly rejected by all atheists. The problem you and many others have is that you try to fit atheists in a box and they cannot be wholly defined as one thing. Atheists, just like Christians, have different levels of belief. Just because they do not believe in "god" or "gods" does not mean they don't have beliefs of something that isn't centered on a higher being. I know a girl who is somewhat Wiccan, but she's an atheist. I don't subscribe to that mindset, but I'm an atheist. She has a religion, partakes in religious practices. I do not. We're different.

No, I'm positing to you that at one time the residents of America thought slavery was acceptable. You claim culture does not have an affect on morality...obviously with outlawing slavery, this country's moral code changed.
No, I get what you're trying to say. I just don't agree with you and you've proven my argument. There is no absolute truth because perspectives are always different and what is a truth to one person is not a truth to another. One person may still find slavery to be completely acceptable while another does not. Generally our culture dictates that slavery is immoral, but that was not the case at one time.
To repeat, Helen Keller, culture does not dictate morality.

That slavery was legal in these antebellum United States did not make it moral.

Steps were taken to bring the nation's BEHAVIOR in line with the absolute truth that slavery is immoral.

That "one person may still find slavery to be completely acceptable" does not make it so.

If your boyfriend believes it to be "completely acceptable" to strike you for failing to have dinner ready at 5pm, will you affirm his personal moral code?

I would say I've had a couple myself. I have even witnessed a miracle and I'm like the last person who would believe it if anybody else told me. But I saw it ... in fact, it was a priest who brought it to my attention and I will be eternally grateful to have been a witness.

I can't decide about Cincinnati. Catch me in a good mood, and I'm okay with Cincy. Catch me in a crabby mood, and I would throw it in with the rest of the armpits in the state.

Cleveland, Akron, Canton, Toledo, Dayton, Cincinnati suburbs are nice, though. Some very, very nice.

I don't think Coalman is such a bad egg since Kasich has been buddy-buddy with him. I still don't like the lawyerese that comes out of his mouth, but he has been moderately positive when it comes to the things I consider important which is development.

Downtown is looking better than ever, and no really, really major boondoggles there. Not happy with the tax increase, but do enjoy the recycling. Otherwise I would say Coalman is doing okay.

Dayton, agreed. I've never been to Lima and never been off 70 when passing by Springfield.
Mansfield's downtown and the area by the mall heading out toward Ontario are slums of Eastland quality.

Frank Jackson is bi-racial, and unlike Obama, actually identifies as such.

I don't like him, but George Forbes of the militant days, he is not.

Now, East Cleveland is a cesspool that should be put under military occupation.

The nicest part of the state, IMO, Hudson, but one of the most expensive.

We abide by the same code - survival of the fittest. It just isn't as blatant as in the animal kingdom. We still have those same instincts - fight or flight. Hell, look at the South Americans who ate the bodies of their friends. It's no different. An animal will gnaw its own limb off if it's trapped. Humans have done this as well.
If that was the moral code of our society, there would be nothing I could do about it. It's not any different than saying we should get rid of murderers by sending them to be executed. That is the moral code of our society. However, not everyone agrees. There is no universal truth regarding this topic. You may think it's moral to execute a killer while another does not.
What's an even better question is why it's was considered immoral to exterminate Jews but not necessarily immoral to lynch blacks. There are some people (including one particular person on here) who thinks it's perfectly fine to exterminate people who are considered a burden/taxing on society as the Jews were viewed in Germany. Some people think it was fine for Zimmerman to kill Martin because he was a "thug punk" who deserved what he got. You cannot prove a Calvinistic type of morality because it does not exist.
I'm sorry for insulting Helen Keller in my previous post.
Will you be featured in the upcoming sequel to "Dumb and Dumber"?

Murder has always been immoral; that disagreement exists regarding a murderer's punishment is secondary.

Thus, lynching blacks because they are black and killing Jews because they are Jewish has always been immoral.

Neither your opinion, nor anyone else's, will change that incontrovertible fact.

...Zimmerman?...Price of tea in China?
OK...we get it. As a committed leftist, you're still angry about it.
The state failed to prove its charges, and Zimmerman was therefore acquitted by a jury of his peers.
Sounds as if your moral code would demand the imprisonment and/or execution of a man found innocent of the charges.
Interesting...

Don't forget to remind him that metro Columbus (Franklin and adjoining counties) have added 600,000 people in the last 30 years. Almost unheard of anywhere in the northeastern United States.
