Must we go through this every single time there's a DUI checkpoint? Sigh.

In order to abide by "search and seizure" laws, DUI checkpoints - time and location - must be publicized by law enforcement (whether or not you agree with this interpretation of the law, and many people do not, is another matter entirely) and they strongly encourage the media to get the word out. As you will see below, publicity for checkpoints is sought, not discouraged.

Law enforcement believes the effectiveness of checkpoints comes not through the arrests they generate (though amazingly there are always at least a few) but from the publicity they generate about DUI. They are not money-makers; the overtime that checkpoints require is almost always paid for through grants (so if you want to dry up the checkpoints, find a way to dry up the grants). There are other forms of targeted enforcement that are more effective than checkpoints, like enforcement "blitzes" that saturate known DUI problem areas with extra patrol officers/deputies/troopers...b ut the checkpoints generate talk. Like right here on this comment board.

Normally I'm not the one who posts this information but it seems like someone has to do it every time, so I thought I'd get it out of the way now.

Obviously not as stupid as you because they know that the courts have ruled that the checkpoints must be published in advance and all that you appear to know is how to advertise your ignorance.

Georgesville south of Broad? Hope there's lots of LEO's in the task force. They could end up with hundreds of offenders in the 6 hours this is running. Stay safe, cops! Shoot first, THEN taze!

For those complaining that these are posted, you should live in Henry County, Georgia or anywhere in GA. They will put these roadblocks up anywhere, anytime, on any road, even right on the interstate exits. Everybody must go through and your Driver’s License and Insurance are checked. Then of course they are checking for the smell of drugs and alcohol. For those law abiding citizens you are still going through it. Good Luck getting through these in any timely manner so if you get caught in one of them you are going to be late to wherever you were heading. So with Ohio posting these in the media at least you are able to avoid the area and aren’t subject to an illegal search or seizure and not being made late for a select few that they are trying to catch. I have been caught up in these things several times and was made late for several appointments because of them. Oh yeah one more thing they do this on a regular basis not just once every few months, these are weekly occurrences .

Sounds like the dune coons who believe blowing themselves up gets them 72 virgins could be useful in Georgia.
