Just over two weeks ago, MSNBC host Martin Bashir delivered a harsh piece of commentary that culminated in the suggestion that someone should “s-h-i-t” in former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin‘s (R-AK) mouth. Bashir offered an abject apology on his next broadcast, but a chorus of critics continued to demand action against the host. After a reported “vacation” for the host earlier this week, Bashir announced, Wednesday afternoon, that MSNBC and Martin Bashir are parting ways.

Here’s the statement from Martin Bashir, via email:

"After making an on-air apology, I asked for permission to take some additional time out around the Thanksgiving holiday.

Upon further reflection, and after meeting with the President of MSNBC, I have tendered my resignation. It is my sincere hope that all of my colleagues, at this special network, will be allowed to focus on the issues that matter without the distraction of myself or my ill-judged comments.

I deeply regret what was said, will endeavor to work hard at making constructive contributions in the future and will always have a deep appreciation for our viewers – who are the smartest, most compassionate and discerning of all television audiences. I would also wish to express deepest gratitude to my immediate colleagues, and our contributors, all of whom have given so much of themselves to our broadcast."

MSNBC will be issuing a statement shortly.

I have heard of Rush Limbaugh since the early nineties, accidentally stumbling on his program in Tidewater Virginia in the cab of my weekly home. Listening to him until my retirement from trucking in 2001, I have probably listened to him a total of 2 hours in the 12 years since.
I never heard of this Martin Bashir until this evening when I read a little about his recent resignation.
I wrote to the person with the strange name beginning with S on the other topix how can Rush Limbaugh hurt the pope when he is known with embassies and ambassadorages worldwide.
On the same token but the other hand how can this person hurt Sarah Palin? Those who love the woman and her politics, Bashir ain't gonna persuade and those who hate the woman and her politics will hate her and would even if Bashir didn't exist.
I must interject this, TM, without your knowledgeable and chock full of facts posts I would not be aware of a lot of things plus your rebukers and refuters are rather entertaining after filtering out the filth of some of them.
If I may be so brave and crude to some, my favourites on the Columbus thread are TM, TA and BB, not in that order but equally. Hopefully, the others won't be able to decipher who I am meaning.

The good news for MSNBC? At least they won't lose viewers because of his resignation.

Maybe he should go to comedy central. The viewers of the daily show and the colbert report don't seem to mind crude jokes. They remind me of limbaugh fans when they have no problem with their hosts being total hypocrites. Free pass from the brain dead viewers. http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2013/05/m...
Look jon stewart just played a clip of mitt romney in the debates and made a face like he has to take a shit! We are so smart for watching this. Look a guy with a beard wearing an american flag asking if little babies want freedom on the report! Never mind they change their opinions like underwear.
Please.
