There was an error in that article where it said that Gold Circle "Gold Circle got bought up eventually by Federated Dept. Stores." (now Macy's).

WRONG.

It was the outgrowth of the Lazarus Bargain Basement. In fact, Lazarus was responsible for starting the chain, which is why it was headquartered here.

What most people also don't realize is that for all intents and purposes, Macy's is actually Lazarus. Federated bought Macy's, not the other way around, and Federated was Lazarus meaning the Lazarus family ran the show over there.

Fazio's also took over the supermarket at the Ontario on South Hamilton Road.
The supermarkets inside the Uncle Bill's and Ontario stores were actually operated by Pick-n-Pay. Both were owned by Cook United, until Pick-n-Pay was sold off.
This is a Dayton ad, but it looks like the same thing happened there.

Fazio's was the closest grocery to us. They went out of business when the first 24 hour store opened nearby.

Here's how I found these pictures. I was curious about who a man named "Nesbitt" was after seeing his name at OSU Stadium. He was a former Chevy dealer Downtown:

When I was in high school, I worked for Fazio's and they were the best grocery around! They had everything for everyone.
I worked in the produce dept. Loved it! At the time, in the early 60's, they paid $6.00 per hour, which was great for the times!
Carl Fazio's was the nicest man to work for. He's still around and I saw him about 8 years ago.
He also got scammed out of a lot of his fortune by a crooked investor who claimed to be his friend.

Interesting. Our local Fazio's got squelched by a store called Carl's. Very interesting connection. Thanks Bizz

Carl's was Fazio's version of Sav-a-Lot or ValuKing

Yep loved that place, its still in business. It was always fun to check the mold growth on the giant pumpkin pie every year. A bunch of us used to hang out at Fairmont's across the street. Do you remember that place?

No, but I still go to Lindsey's for the pumpkin donuts and coconut cake. Everything is pretty good and the owner is nice.

The Tuscan Table has very good Italian food if you don't want to drive to Grove City, Lancaster or Chillicothe.

Rich's New York Deli is also very good. Jeni's Ice Cream!

I remember the giant pumpkin pie and people would try to spit on it. I think they moved it behind glass. We don't go the Pumpkin Show much, too many people!
