The county has lost one of its finest public servants and law enforcement officers. He did good for the county and was always looking out for what was best for Franklin County and its citizens.

You will be missed Sheriff. Thoughts and prayers to the family. RIP.

Godspeed, Big Jim. You were a great man and police officer. I was lucky to have known you for so many years, since your days as the 3rd shift jail lieutenant, and then through the DARE Program and Shamrock Club. I will miss the bear hugs you always had for me. The law enforcement community has suffered a great loss and you will be deeply missed. Rest in the peace you so deserve. Deepest sympathy and prayers to the Karnes family.
Beautifully said.

Sandy and girls: You are all in our thoughts and prayers today (one of the saddest I know). I will always remember Jim from the Clippers games when he worked security. He always had a warm smile and hugs for all of us! Proud to have called him a friend. Law enforcement has indeed lost a GREAT man!

I did not know Sheriff Karnes personally but met him a few times at social events. He was very pleasant to talk with and seemed to have a very unique sense of humor. The county has lost a very strong leader.

Condolences to his family, friends, co-workers, and all who knew him. He will long be remembered as a giant among men.

Jim Karnes was a good Sheriff and a good man! Even though I worked for another department (OSP), I had the pleasure of working with Sheriff Karnes at many special events and enjoyed talking with him at the many DUI checkpoints he always showed up at! He will be missed! My thoughts and prayers are with the Karnes family.
