While Zach should be congratulated, citizens should be concerned that a Corporal,(just promoted to Sgt. one week before Karnes announced he had cancer so he would qualify to be sheriff) was given control of the Sheriffs Dept. He has very little command experience. Just because he was a great friend of Karnes, who was schooling him to be Sheriff and told the search committee that this was his choice to replace him, does not mean that he was the best qualified. It is disturbing that the dog and pony show even took place. Why interview the other two, at least one, the FBI guy, was MUCH more qualified, if the fix was already in? The Democratic party should be ashamed of their false search. Stop wasting folks time by making a mockery of the process. Just tell the folks like it was, that you already had someone you wanted, and you did not need to interview anyone else as the decision was made by Big Jim as to who would replace him. Shame on the party to do something dishonest like this. Take a guy who was writing tickets two months ago and place him in charge of the department, god help us all!!!!!

You are very mistaken. He didn't go from writing tickets two months ago to Sheriff. sheriff Scott has worked in many divisions of the FCSO and worked with many people over the years in other agencies including the FBI. And what makes someone from the FBI MUCH more qualified as you put it? Zach knows what he is doing. And he wasn't promoted to Sergeant just to qualify for Sheriff. Being a Cpl he was already qualified. Do your homework before you speak youngster. Congrats Sheriff Scott.

About 1 million - give or take persons in the Greater Metro Area. There are people from law enforcement, people from the Fed, folks from executive protection, clandestine groups at Battelle or the fortune 500 companies that are in Columbus. There are retired FBI agents, 1 or 2 high level former LAPD command staff that live here. And "Hollywood Scott" a Corporal from the DARE section is the best we can do?

He's commanded how many people? He's overseen a budget of? He has how many college degrees uh none. People in Central Ohio don't have enough TVs to watch this guy......

I don't know why everyone keeps saying that FBI agents and other fed agents would be more qualified. What do they know about running a Sheriffs office? They don't know how things work within all of the divisions that the Sheriffs office is responsible for. And as for putting Sheriff Scott down for working within DARE., let's not forget that Sheriff Karnes worked in DARE and was a great Sheriff for 20years. Congrats Sheriff Scott.

Chicago had a former FBI man run their police department and he was a dismal failure who ran the CPD into the ground.

Good luck to Sheriff Scott.

Be glad the guy from South Bloomfield didn't get it. Franklin County would have turned in to one big speed trap.

No really there are better choices this is a major metro area with a host of issues. In a few years as annexation takes place the Sheriff will only have the jail and Sheriif's sales. The next generation of Sheriff needs to be prepared to face those issues.

Being a high profile detective in a few porch war homicides and telling kids not to do drugs is not a qualification. Good acts, noble work. But not a leader of an 800 person force, with legal issues, budgets, and planning needs.

As always Zach is in this for Zach. His main topic is how many elbows he rubbed and dumb everyone else is and how much money he makes. The sheriff dept is in for a rude awakening and it will not be good.......(and your right he does not have a clue how to run anything, how's your foot these days????)

Having been a law enforcement officer myself. I am certain Jim Karnes let his party know of who he would like to fill his shoes for the duration of his term. And, I am certain that Zach Scott will do a very fine job of it. He may be new at the job, but with the proper support of his fellow officers and others - he will be ok. I wish him the best of luck.
