If there's no war on women the proposed fair wage acts shouldn't harm a thing. Not entirely sure why it's such an issue. If women are really being paid the same as men (and there's some nefarious work at hand with the statistics, or something equally sordid and unlikely) then the proposed legislation will just lead to greater transparency, showing how gosh darned fair things are.
"I don't need it" seems a strange and sad reason to reject calls for greater transparency, though it's often a small, sad world.
All this 'war on women' and 'fair wage acts' is just the left tilting at windmills and making up controversies that don't exist to garner more votes and get more folks dependent on the government dole.

No one who has a work ethic and drive needs it. If you do, earn it and stop looking for 'it' to be handed to you. Yeah, that builds character alright.

people are paid for the value they bring.....period.
if a woman brings more value to the table, then her pay will reflect it because the employer won't want to lose her.
that is reality.
True. But, RS, there will always be people that want to blame their failure on something other than themselves. Screw them all, short and tall, big and small.

<quoted text> So far the consensus on this thread is that women get equal pay. I think older people are discriminated against more. I've seen that first hand.
I think the most discriminated group in the US right now is the white male. If you can't claim some minority status........move to the back of the line no matter how talented you are.

What is fair about quotas and miniority discounts?

Diversity functions as a national victim cult, both in the US and Israel.
Diversity classifies and recognizes entire groups of people, including women, as victims of oppression. For women, diversity designates men as the oppressor of women.
As the eternal victim of men, women are conditioned to trade votes for legal privilege guaranteed by a powerful central government.
Diversity people are a super-majority of the voting populace, over 80 percent, in both the US and Israel. The promotion of diversity ideology is official domestic and foreign policy of the US and Israel.
Diversity is also an ultra-large crony patronage system. The pervasive crony capitalism of the US and Israel benefits diversity people, primarily the leaders of diversity.
In the US, all of these subclasses of people are designated diversity:
women
african american
queer
disabled (including military veterans)
jewish
hispanic and latino
asian (including east indian)
native american (including Innuit)
Remarkably, arabs and muslims are not reognized as diversity by big government, for obvious reasons.
WTF are you trying to say? Sounds like a lot of hot air.

Both RS and SL say it like it is. Value is what drives pay and this is something the left is bringing up to further divide the country.

I work with a lot of sharp women that are paid well. If they aren't paid fairly they are talented enough to go find another job.

To see more laws guaranteeing fairness will just further add to discrimination and perpetuate unfairness. Just like affirmative action, welfare and other govt ideas that hurt more than they help while many times having the exact opposite effect of the intent.

If women really were being paid significantly less for the same jobs, those "greedy corporations" would be hiring mostly women in order to save on payroll costs.
Amen! Women as a GROUP are paid less simply because of a few things:

- They still enter the workforce and exit several time in order to bear/rear children
- They often are the more educated, meaning they enter the workforce later
- Many women opt to work only part-time while rearing children, they remain the primary childcare (and in my book, if that's what they want, that's OK)

We could sit here all night and trade single stories of women who shattered the glass ceiling and others who didn't. The paycheck amount does NOT indicate career OR life satisfaction.

I'd still like to see that "war on women." I've never once been held back or discriminated against due to my female gender. In fact, I make more than some men. I make more than some women. Some men make more than me, some women make more than me. Who cares? Salaries in most careers these days are negotiated.... unless we're talking union labor which is another ball of wax.

I'm what everybody would call a white male. None of this seems to bother me or keep me from succeeding. When I was 18 I applied for a job at Fastenal and filled out an application, took an aptitude test, was interviewed by 3 different people, toured the plant and didn't get the job. The person I know (they worked there then and still do) said that they hired an African - American gentleman who didn't even make it to his first day. Thank god because before they could try to call me back I landed a job as a mason laborer that payed 6 more dollars an hour, plus I had the opportunity to learn a whole lot more than counting nuts and bolts into boxes.

not what I meant when I said I've seen it. I meant according to all the discrimination we hear about, that's what I've seen the most of having worked with dozens of businesses. http://jobs.aol.com/articles/2013/12/24/fight...
