Catholics, if they continue their religious education past confirmation, will encounter Socrates and Plato. I did in high school, taught with religion. Clearly remember having to read the Allegory of the Cave my senior year.
I was dealt two dreadful semesters of Philosophy in college...they did their part in establishing my 3.1...the wrong way.

How can you respect it? If he doesn't accept Jesus as the son of God, he is going to Hell right? Just like all of the Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, etc. Right?

Where has anyone said that in this or any other conversation with you?
You just keep showing the world why you're so disliked. Frank Burns had better days than you.

Hammurabi: ruler of Babylon, 1795-1750 BC. Earliest known ruler to have presented a rather comprehensive set of codified law to his subjects. His code defines the organization of a functional society. Remarkable in that it was an organized set of laws that were in existence but were not codified or written and communicated clearly.
Now tell us what he has to do with this discussion.

Ugh. I didn't have it in college, but had to do two difficult semesters of literature surveys of the Bible. High school had to take courses on the foundations of Christianity/Catholicism junior and senior years, Plato and Aristotle were included.

The lights are on, but nobody's ever home at che's house.
"The Lord has redeemed all of us, all of us, with the Blood of Christ: all of us, not just Catholics. Everyone!'Father, the atheists?' Even the atheists. Everyone! And this Blood makes us children of God of the first class! We are created children in the likeness of God and the Blood of Christ has redeemed us all! And we all have a duty to do good. And this commandment for everyone to do good, I think, is a beautiful path towards peace. If we, each doing our own part, if we do good to others, if we meet there, doing good, and we go slowly, gently, little by little, we will make that culture of encounter: we need that so much. We must meet one another doing good.'But I don't believe, Father, I am an atheist!' But do good: we will meet one another there."
-- Pope Francis I, 05/22/2013
The pope never mentions heaven; he is referring to a meeting of the minds -- an "encounter" between believers and non-believers -- wherein both have joined up to do good and wherein the non-believers may, through this joint endeavor with believers, encounter the actual grace of God that leads to salvation through faith in Jesus Christ alone.

My sisters went that route as well...our folks made them go to Ursuline while I went to public. That was a constant gloat I held over them.

Right. His code had nothing to do with the Abrahamic god or Jesus.

No. I would also think that any omniscient god would frown on a lifelong Jew or Hindu suddenly hedging his bets and converting to every religion available at the moment of reckoning. I would also suspect that any true believing Jew or Hindu would take their faith to their death. So the question is, to the Christian who believes that the only way to Heaven is through Christ, what becomes of everyone else?

There are only two who would know if that were the case.

I wouldn't hazard a guess.

I don't know. I DO, however, believe that one day I WILL know!
