If it's not discipline, it's assault.
What if it is discipline and the intent is to discipline so severely that it bruises?

<quoted text>If my reading of that article is correct, spanking is already allowed and the senator wants the spanker to be allowed to increase the force used so that bruising occurs.
When I hear people say that they were thrashed within an inch of their lives, "but look at me, I turned out alright", I usually look at them and think, "no, you certainly did not turn out alright."
Not only does a beating to the point of bruising hurt the body, but affects the mind. This just doesn't go away. It's lasting affects haunt a person till they can come to terms with what happened.

If the intent is to bruise, it is also assault.

If you stop in front of me and I can't stop in time to avoid hitting you, it's an accident. If you stop in front of me, and I could stop but instead hit you on purpose, it's assault.

You still don't have the definition of assault correct. Assault is knowingly causing or attempting to cause physical harm. Knowing is a lesser culpable mental state than purpose.

what does it matter?

in a country where we murder 1,000,000 babies a year, why not toughen up the survivors with bruises so they learn life bruises them frequently?

Again, I wasn't defining it, only providing an example.

No I didn't. We haven't been discussing serious physical harm.

While that is true, I doubt that you arrived at that conclusion by looking at Kansas Criminal Code, given your prior comment regarding "recklessness".

The statutory definitions of the varying degrees of an assault offense in Ohio depend upon precise, black and white language.

Actually, the Kansas statute, which seems to codify the common law concept of assault, requires no physical harm at all.

Just because you aren't smart enough to follow along doesn't make the conversation "spin."

Spanking would more closely resemble "battery" than it would "assault", in Kansas terms.

I am smart enough to also see the wasted millions in Lawyer fees.

All your rants are spin.

Why are you worried about a bruise, and condone murder?

So in lieu of a smack, a doctor helping mommy murder the kid is fine with you.

That is the real question. Typical lawyer spin.
