Bzzt wrong again! I have never identified myself as male or female. BTW, you crack me up. It's ok to bash other religions, but if anyone criticizes catholicism you get you panties in a bunch. Maybe you ought to go get more sleep and let the adults have an adult conversation, loser.

Catholic hospitals make tons of money for the Catholic church and are good public relations cover for all the evil the church does otherwise. They go to show you just how devious the Catholic church is.

Then I trust you or members of your family won't tie up a bed in one of them. Sounds like a win-win to me.

The sensible solution:
Insurance companies need to offer insurance that covers the needs of the individual.
Those who need insurance coverage for birth control and ob/gyn services such as pregnancy and delivery should be able to purchase specific coverage.
Those past child bearing age should be abe to purchase a policy that does not include, and does not charge for, such coverage.
BTW, sex may be "natural", but it is NOT an entitlement! Nobody has the right to expect the taxpayers to pay for birth control or abortion. Sex is a choice; if you cannot afford to cover the consequences yourself, keep your legs together. Otherwise you are forcing your choice on others.

Yeah, it is ridiculous. I used to be a Catholic until I grew up, went to College and lived life. I began to understand just how base and corrupt the Catholic church really is. The final straw was the revelation of widespread child sexual abuse in the Catholic church. While there had always been rumors, this revealed them to be true. A detective friend of mine laid it out for me. By mandating celibacy and forbidding priests to marry, homosexual pedophiles were given 'cover' in the priessthood, that is no one would view them as 'abnormal' or suspect them because this unnatural condition, which would normally invite suspicion, was mandated by the church and thus 'normal'. This, along with the prospect of unlimited, and unscrutinized, access to children, and as Godlike authority figures no less, attracted droves of homosexual pedophiles into the priesthood to the point where they became its ruling class, the same ruling class of cardinals who covered up the scandal. I thus reached the inevitable conclusion that the Catholic church was rotten to the core. This latest stunt only confirms my conclusion.
The Church is better off without your type.

George Jefferson, Why is it you have such a problem with federal funding for birth control but not Viagra or penis pumps?

The issue is not about religious beliefs with birth control. It is about the power of the government about who pays for health care decisions. This is the forebearer of the "death panel" in Obamacare. This same type panel of experts will decide what the government will and will not pay for, including whether the government (aka we the taxpayers) will pay for elective surgery, sustaining life for the terminally ill, and even what doctors we can see. America: welcome to socialism!

I don't say this with disrespect toward catholics. I respect people of any faith. That being said; let the bishops and cardinals clean up the child molestation issues within the catholic church before they start cleaning the rest of the world's house. The pedophilia within the catholic church has been addressed with a wink and a nod for far too long. Too many children have been victimized.

Maybe the church should start paying for all the accidental or medically challenged, or unafforded children, that are born. There are many economic, social, medical, personal reasons for preventing or terminating pregnancy.

Why is it that comments like these so often include the sage advice to "keep your legs together" as though the situation was totally under the control of the woman involved?

Where did I say I supported tax dollars paying for Viagra? Please cut and paste where I said that.

If this helps stop abortions, then the church should support it.

What is this --another power-play by church officials?

Some religions don't believe in blood transfusions, either, so should insurance stop covering them?

As for Catholic hospitals, sample of their thinking: A friend was in a Catholic hospital in Cleveland. She was 14 years of age. After surgery she was in very much pain at which time a nun was asked to give her something to relive it. The nun's reply - "Offer all of your pain for the sins you have committed." Needless to say, no pain relief was given.

Ok, well if we extend your argument then pretty much no conditions should be covered under insurance. For example, eating is natural but stuffing yourself to the point of obesity is not. Still, insurance companies cover gastric bypass and other medications/treatments for overweight people. Are you ok with preventative screenings and efforts to reduce the obesity epidemic? Then you should be ok with birth control.

Birth control is very cheap these days. I'd much rather pay a little extra to prevent pregnancy than pay a LOT extra for a baby. Have you seen what it costs just to have a baby? Then all the well and sick visits? Covering bc is a financially prudent decision any way you look at it.
