I am ever so happy to have crossed that rainbow bridge. I can't tell you how awful it was to live with E. Normus. Man never changed his shirt, it smelled worse than the litter box he would never clean for me. I'm certain that no other kitty could have a worse human.
Hello, Johnson. Moved to Galloway, have you?

<quoted text>Let's see...our cat came from the CAHS and was five years old when we got him. We had him declawed (front only). Now, which is worse? Declawed or dead?
A rescue cat...wonderful! They are in such need of love!

Beany was declawed in front only also.

Local shelters are the ones who need the money the most. National organizations squander monies donated to them.

BTW BB, my post was factually accurate. There are several places on earth where little kitty makes a fine stew.

Awwww, how sweet.
There's a black Lab next door who craves for attention, and I can't even pet him because he gets so excited to see me, and he has already knocked me down.....lol
Owners are lax with the attention, poor baby.
I will never forget two winters ago, they let him outside in a freezing snowstorm and never let him back in. He was barking for 45 min so I called there and told them his paws will freeze. They let him in for about 10 min then out he goes again in the storm. I wanted to call the Humane officer, but it probably wouldn't have done any good, because she works at the police station.
They never let him in for long periods of time...rain, snow....it angers me!

It should if he doesn't have any outside shelter! Some people are idiots when it comes to their animals. Call the Humane officer. I have when dogs have been chained outside for long periods of time with no food/water or in extreme hot or cold.
Go get 'em, Bee!

I had a bluetic and she would never come in where it was heated. Most she woukd do is go in the barn while it rained. Snow that dog would run through snow drifts and she was a short haired dog.

Skunks like the heated shop they hang out with the cats.

I don't find it a problem, there are good reasons. As in your case, cat will scratch anything.
I've done front only with a cat--for the same reasons. All the training the world didn't discourage him. And he was neutered, thought that would slow him down. But it didn't--no matter all of the scratching towers, etc. I bought. He was attracted to the wood furniture, I wasn't going to replace all the furniture withe metal over a darn cat.
I wouldn't do hind paws, how are they going to scratch themselves? I'd do only indoor cats though. Outdoor or barn cats--no need.
Have to be careful though, sometimes declawed cats do not like their litter boxes and there are other types of litter you can use to circumvent problems. Look up Jackson Galaxy, he's discussed the problem and had solutions on his show. Talk to the vet too. Not all will do the procedures, most will.
Declawing will not put an end to a cat's kneading or scratching-like behavior. That's instinctive. They just can't hurt anything.
They still can scratch an itch with no claws. The rubbing action from the paws still does the trick. They just can't cut up the cloth on a chair climbing up it.

Next time, simply invite him into your home for treats, and see how long it is before they notice his absence. Then have a frank conversation with them when they figure out where he is.

BTW, Duke absolutely loves swimming, loves snow, but hates being caught in heavy rain, and is deathly afraid of thunderstorms. He can detect a thunderstorm a good two hours before it hits.
