Ok. The 'chuck taking old one-eye' phrase is from "Grumpy Old Men" when Burgess Meredith comments on his neighbor taking flowers and wine over to a new neighbors woman's house.
The goldfish thing is incorrect - goldfish lay eggs, and egg-laying goldfish aren't called twits. Grandpa might have been implying that I am an idiot (a twit) for not knowing his earlier reference, but neither cliche has anything to do with this story; so the only twit, is Grandpa...
Thanks,"Say What"! He must be in a different dimension!

He was jailed because he was intoxicated while these helpless babies were in his care. His demeanor when help arrived speaks volumes. He wasn't too drunk to get himself out was he? He was not hysterically yelling "My kids are in there!" when neighbors arrived to help. He was simply watching his house burn calmly, as his children died. Per the news report, a can of lighter fluid was found in the house, and this was the second house fire this man had in 2 different places in 2 months. Tests are being done now to see if he may have set the fire intentionally. I hope he spends the rest of his earthly life in jail. God will take care of those babies now.
Jenny, I read somewhere that he was inside when the fire started. Then, he went out and he was watching through the windows to see if he could get the children when the firemen arrived. Why didn't he do it when he was inside?

I lived in Leesburg, Highland County from birth til 1970. I went to school with Coonrods. They lived in Centerfield then next to Rattlesnake Creek. I remember their house burned down sometime in 1969 or 70....before I moved to Florida. The Coonrods were a poor family and it appears that poverty mindset was passed on down the generations. It is a sad thing when young children are the victims of a low life drunk parents neglectful actions. No amount of government welfare money can fix that problem. That's why I say stop all social welfare paid for with tax dollars and force people to WORK and PRODUCE and be PRODUCTIVE members of their community. As the bible says....."whoever does not work does not eat" Our ederly and bonofide handicap excepted.

HE WASN'T IN THE HOUSE!!!! The doors were locked and he was OUTSIDE. Tim (one of the guys that tried to rescue the kids) tried to get them out.. they had to bust the door in. The thing I don't understand is HOW can he have domestic violence charges, restraining orders and been in and out of jail and still get custody of the kids?!?! The court system SUX!! I feel bad that the mother felt like she didn't have any other options but someone said the COONROD family is tight.. well WHY WEREN'T YOU TAKING CARE OF THE KIDS OR TAKE THE MOTHER AND KIDS IN? Isn't that what family does?!?!

Where was the mother ? Don't tell me she was in jail.
No she was not in jail you fool. As a matter of fact she was in my store today asking if she could put a jar out so people could make donations so that she would be able to get a tombstone for her children. I dont't know why the father had the children and I did not ask, seeing that she just lost them and she was in tears at the time. Obviously there was a breakdown in the system somewhere to let an "upstanding" person like the guy have those children at all. Like she told me today she has to relive what mightg have happened to her babies everyday when she goes to court and she is not ready for that

Children Services should pay for failing to protect them. Whoever assigned those children to the drunkard should pay for the tombstone..!

I live here, just a few houses away from the fire. You dont have all the info and dont KNOW Coonrod at all. WE who were there KNOW a lot of the facts, you dont. Those babies died BECAUSE of him. The same thing happend a few weeks before, the same way. The boys in the home alone, doors locked, fire starting in or near the bedroom, and Wesley OUTSIDE. My friends risked thier own lives to try and save those poor boys, Wesley would not even tell them WHERE in the house the boys were!!!!! Both fires were the day before one of the boys bithdays, both set by human hands. Wesley was tired of the boys getting in the way of his drinking. I hope you get the death penelty Wes!!!!!!!!

Well guess you were WRONG. She got arrested last week for SHOPLIFTING from Wal-Mart in Hillsboro. Poor MOM??? Sounds like she's as worthless as he is!!!! They should have gave those poor babies up for adoption... at least they might have had a chance at a better life!!!

He was outside the house and was not trying to get back in. I believe he said that he climbed out a window but all windows and doors were locked and he wouldnt tell anybody where the boys were. All he wasworried about was getting a cig from someone. The fd did the best that they could so dont blame them when a p.o.s. starts a fire and kills his kids. The mother is just as bad. Multiple kids and doesnt take care of them because she was too busy getting her next fix. She was putting out jars to collect money for drugs not a head stone. Those poor babies lost their lives because everybody in their families and the court system failed them. This whole situation sickens me.

No, I don't live in a glass house...but I do live in a house, not a trailor.
Battle his own demons? Doesn't sound like he puts up much of a fight. The guy is obviously a dirt-ball hick who can't be responsible for children.
Agree with the above with one exception. Just because someone lives in a trailer and you live in a house does not make you any better. It means they do not have as much money as some people and have to make due the best they can. That is a terrible statement to make.

after the boys were killed in the fire the mother tried to collect donations and put it in her pocket she had nothing to do with the kids until after they died and then she wanted everyone to feel sorry for her. I don't know if he meant to kill his boys or not but i do know i always seen him with his sons and always taking them to the playground and stuff. he seemed like he really loved his kids
