I can understand it for certain people... homeless people, elderly who can't cook for themselves, etc. But not for recipients who are able to cook for themselves. It wouldn't be too difficult to enable it on some recipients' cards and not others. What's even more disturbing is the people who have used EBT cards for cruises, in casinos, bars, etc. If you have government provided money at the end of the month, it should be given back. It's for sustenance, not perks.
Ya wanna back some of that stuff up with some proof? I'm particularly interested in the cruises.

It seems as though back when there was first a rule change to allow restaurant purchases on the part of recipients who lacked cooking facilities that there was some special kind of certification. But think this one through. Probably pretty easy to put a feature into the system that allows only certain cards to be zipped at restaurants. But, how are you going to ascertain that only people who are truly without kitchen facilities get those cards? If you don't trust them to begin with, why assume that they will be truthful when you ask them if they have a kitchen? Do we have manpower to confirm this? At what cost? And what about when folks are temporarily without--electric shut off, or refrigerator broke--frozen pipes (no water) or whatever.

End of the day it's probably more practical and less expensive all the way around to just let people make their own decisions. It's not like the SNAP (formerly food stamps) program has EVER intended to supply a full month's dietary need to begin with.

Ever heard of the Detroit Red Wings? How about the Chicago Blackhawks? No blacks in those cities, huh?
I know some black kids (in my neighborhood, no less) who play hockey.

Sports overall, however, are a fairly expensive proposition--take a lot of cash and a lot of parental time. These are the sorts of things (the whole world of enrichments outside of school) that kids from more well-to-do families have in their lives that not every kid has.

And, it seems to make a difference.

They seem to spend plenty on stuff like sneakers and jerseys. I could outfit a kid for hockey every year with used gear for the cost of three pairs of new Jordans.
And we know every kid in the hood has three or four pairs of new Jordans in their closet, right?

LOL--show me the line in the state budget that funds high school football. Do you totally not ever read the newspaper?

Time is always more important than money. Equipment and venues will happen one way or the other, but time is indeed a different story.

"The state" refers to the public school system, which legally is a subsidiary of the State of Ohio. It's also a synonym for "government"

"State-funded broadcasting" PBS (even though the 'state' is actually the feds, I don't know if Ohio funds PBS at all)

Again--don't you ever read newspapers? Familiar with pay to play? Southwestern City Schools shut down its whole sports program a couple of years ago--couldn't afford it.

Sport does make a difference but when Black churches are run by evil men teaching heresy (Critical Race Theory)they are doomed.

Right, because parents in well-to-do neighborhoods aren't WORKING THEIR BUTTS OFF and have tons of time. FAIL.

Ah, perhaps you'd like to elaborate on the heretical tenets of Critical Race Theory.

And exactly what percentage of black pulpits are influenced by Critical Race Theory?

Do you have any grasp of Critical Race Theory beyond the first paragraph in wiki? Ever read any Critical Race theorists?

She was very active in driving it out of Worthington.
And maybe this is why she is so down on churches/Christianity. Just a guess.
But, I don't quite see the relevance to the current discussion.
WHOA, EXCUSE ME? Are you nuts?

I have never been associated with that institution. I have never "driven it out of Worthington". YOU mentioned working for a Methodist institution, and I made a correct guess based on your own ramblings about where you have worked and with whom. That's on you for blabbing on the internet. I have never met you, nor would I want to. Thankfully for you I can't holler slander on an "anonymous" user name.

To have made up something like this is out of line. Are you about to have a meltdown like Kosmik? If you are, leave me out of it. I don't tell a lot of personal stories, it's true - but that gives you no right to give me an assumed identity with assumed actions that have never, ever, ever been a part of my life.

Retract it immediately, please.
