The Bible states, "The poor you will have with you always."

That is because people, given the freedom to do so, will always make poor, selfish and irrational decisions but that also frees the industrious to make good decisions and build a better world.

Every country has poor.
This country can do a little welfare reform to lower thoses numbers.....the more you give the more they'll take, the longer they remain inactive.......and remain poor.....
The industrious will always survive, because they have the will and the drive to suceed.

Everyone has the same freedom to choose what kind of life they want and what kind of upbringing they provide their kids.....it's like a black hole....a vicious cycle.....this has to, in some way, be broken to change that cycle.
So far no one has had the brains or the balls to do that!

I agree.

The key, to quote your post, is the "will and drive" that the inter-generational poor lack. They are like dogs chasing their tails wanting more and more cash to be given them only to blow it on lottery tickets and junk food. All this does is keep them poor but the Democrats are able to play the "victim" card every time with these sorts of people who never figure it out.

Africans near me run the corner gas station while American born Blacks complain about racism and live in the past and are unable to see the present opportunities that are right in front of them.

I understand. Blacks from other countries don't have the prejudices, and preconceived notions the blacks have here. It's a way of life for some in this country...even some whites are in this category....every race has it's druthers......
They are not brought up to be lazy and live off the govt.
The dooming cycle must be broken.....

I love it!
It's the truth. They( some) are raised with the attitude the govt owes them and there's no incentive to go forward....
We need welfare reform pronto....

The arrival of the dark undertow at both Sham's Club and Mal-Mart are the reason I quit going to both sh^tholes. And the looks those sh^tstains gave to us whites, you would have thought they themselves had designed and built LEMs.

Then if this story is true I will bet the cashier got FIRED because we all know we can not say anything like that while on the job, if he told them when he was off duty in the parking lot it might be different. Do I smell lawsuit?

While I would agree that the poor will always be with us, I'd disagree with the conclusion. It seems to assume that the industrious are always the ones who make good decisions and nothing bad can ever happen to them. I see it a bit more fluid than that. You can be industrious, but yet have bad intentions. You can be prosperous and still lose everything in a moment. What is your definition of "rational" and "industrious?" I can make a decision that would be rational for me, but irrational for you. I can say I am happy (and quite possible to do this) without a desire to build a lot of wealth (and remain off the dole) and strive for a different type of life... I've known teachers who make rather little and yet they work quite hard, I've known bankers/CEOs who are so narcissistic their decisions are all about THEM and they hardly work for what they've reaped, and probably got their golden parachutes in some unethical manner...

To each, his own, so long as you are not a burden to others?

Agreed. There does seem to be a generation of those who were "born into" this mentality of handouts. I'm not sure what "poor" really is in some respects because I have known folks who don't make huge sums of money and still live within their means. I sometimes think those within the handout mentality have no clue about reality.

Income inequality? I'll say so! Obama just returned from a four million dollar Hawaiian vacation. And he yelps about the issue?

There are burdens that you willingly take on, and those that are forced upon you. If not for the latter, there's be more of the former.

This problem has been on going for decades under all watches. It's just peaked now because of the economy bust.

Half-gallons of ice cream are down to 1.5 quarts at Kroger... for the same price of course.

They think nobody notices.

But he agrees with sending Israel $10 Billion of our taxes a year and $3 Billion to Islamist a year. Where's your gripe about that?
