When the public schools were founded, they were based on a mainline Protestant model, and the population was mainly Protestants.
Since people came to this country who were not Protestant, they have set up private and parochial schools. They were pushing for public support as dollars/student, but the "Blaine Amendments" were passed.
When the system had changed, and the explicit Protestantism was purged from the public schools by the Warren Court, we started the widespread idea of vouchers.
We could have ended up with a dual system like they had before 1990 in Ontario. That would have been an interesting concept in this country.

I thought they still have tax-funded Catholic schools?

Now to me, I regard that as a terrible idea, Dalton began ordering that they teach in favor of gay rights.

The courts have probably ruled that a Muslim school gets the same treatment.

They have "separate but equal" Catholic and non-denominational. Both are further subdivided into English and French. But since 1990 overt religious exercise like prayer has been banned in all of them. The concept is based on setting of curricula that best reflects each groups beliefs, minus obvious religious overtones.

I have no intention of stopping. But if you paid attention, you'd know it's because "douche" sounds like "Duke."
Live with it.

So does "Puke." But you choose the one used to clean a sex organ. But you aren't fixated.

How can you "reflect beliefs" without "religious overtones" ???

Was this when the NDP was in power?

If you don't think "douche" and "douchbag" haven't been used as run of the mill slurs for over 30 years, you're clueless. SNL mainstreamed it in 1981. It's the equivalent of "a##hole."
You seem to be the one with an issue dear. Are you a heavy user of such potions?

The problem is mainly the fault of parents, in many cases the lack of a present father.
That can't be solved by the state.
The Delta region is in decline, has been in decline, and will be unless large oil reserves are found there. We need to start admitting that people who live in depressed areas, should not be paid to stick around. Otherwise we're just maintaining a reservation.
Always the simplistic answer, right?

And always someone else's fault.

And never a solution.

No crucifixes, no crosses, no statuary, paintings of Christ and no prayer. But curricula like creationism along with evolution in the Catholic boards, differences in situational ethics classes, history classes (say, on the Reformation) taught from a Protestant perspective in their boards while taught from a Catholic perspective in Catholic boards.
This has been done for decades regardless of the party in power. It's in the Federal constitution. There are limits set in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

There is no other person responsible for a child other than his or her parent(s), assuming they are alive.

And it flies in the face of leftists who reject the fact that creationism, abortion, and similar issues can be discussed purely from a scientific standpoint.

The irony is that Ontario is incredibly leftist. The whole system would no doubt have been scrapped years ago were it not written into the Federal Constitution. That way, it's subject to the opinions of all ten provinces. Alberta, Saskatchewan, Quebec and the territories have similar systems and protections. That's why it's there to stay.

I choose not to since you've demonstrated how it sets you off.
I was the middle child with a sister on either side. I know how to play that game, little girl.

There is no science in creationism.

And I guarantee you would not be comfortable with purely scientific discussions of abortion.

Since when have Catholics endorsed creationism?

I was the middle child between two brothers.

But I grew up.
