And frankly, i'd just as well see it go to a child I know than the nameless, faceless millions of other's my husband and I support with our taxes.
Like municipal workers, at any level, who sit at their desks and are on topix all day while collecting a paycheck, benefits and pensions.
Just because they are related to me through marriage, does not mean I approve of the entitlements. Go back to the beginning of this and read what I told them both re her getting, what I consider a huge, amount from IRS because of the EIC.
I don't hold back because it is a friend or relative and you're an idiot if you have followed my posts and believe that.
The father HAD to move for his employment. He has never been out of his daughter's life. It's a 3 hour drive and he/she/we make it often. They are far better parents and productive citizens than millions of the welfare receipents.
The EIC credit is far too liberal and is bankrupting the country. That is my strong opinion and I will stay with it.
Clinton reformed welfare. Obama has gutted the requirements.
So, Anon (reader), don't speak on something unless you understand what the poster has said to begin with.
Why be gainfully employed when you can get health care assistance, some energy assistance, food stamps, daycare PLUS a $7,000+ EIC check? I'm sorry, but I really think THAT is the reason they won't get married - the very thing you bristle against. When you get married, you do it to honor your partner (and in this case, the mother of the child)- whether or not they're "gainfully employed".

I know of no one, except you, who isn't monitored as to where they are going on the internet while sitting at their desks at their place of employment - and, if found spending ANY time at a site like Topix, going on a warning. But, of course, I don't roll with the upper echelon as you do so perhaps that is the difference.

I think a much more basic question would be, if you're happy to support her and their child through taxes and assuming you do have a job, why not offer her assistance directly to help make sure that your grandchild isn't growing up in poverty. The extra money might even allow your stepson the chance to focus on being a father to his child!

Something else just dawned on me. With your multitudes of connections with the rich, their associated companies and their associated charities, you couldn't find her a solid job? Or one which would allow your stepson to stay in the area? Or, perhaps, jobs for both of them?

There are no major errors in my details. You're build (twisting) a senerio you have no details on.
You don't know the tax code. You're not a CPA.
And neither parent has a full time, cushy municipal job where they can sit on their ass and bait people on topix all day like you do.
Do you have any idea what the employment opportunities have been since 2008 for non-governmental workers? No, you don't.
Better watch out, reader. That public paid pension you've been (sort of) working towards all these years may not be there for you afterall. Take a look at California.
Virginia is an expensive place to live. So you're saying he can keep a roof over his head, pay child support, afford gasoline to keep going back and forth AND only works part-time? He moved 3 hours for a part-time job which requires him to go back and forth to visit his girlfriend and child? Something's not passing the smell test here, SL.

Yes, common sense is definitely nuts these days! So why get married, again? With a $7000 tax free check plus benefits and a government too busy implementing health insurance purported to be a train wreck (by the Democrats themselves!) to worry about who's cheating the system and a financially comfortable family to defend the use of such a system, single motherhood gains traction.

MY OBJECTION IS TO THE EIC CREDIT, NO MATTER WHO IS RECEIVING IT OR WHICH POLITICAL PARTY INSTATED IT. PERIOD. IT NEEDS TO BE REVAMPED AND REDUCED SO THAT IT DOES NOT BANKRUPT THE COUNTRY AND INDIVIDUAL TAXPAYERS.

And, you self righteous, condesending bitach, BOTH PARENTS I SPEAK OF WORK FULL TIME. Where you come up with 'part time' is another invention of your demented mind.

You, filing as single, head of household (assuming you still have dependents living with you), probably also receive an EIC Credit. It is available to all citizens, married or not, with dependents or without. A single man or woman, low income, with no dependents will receive an EIC credit.

Posting under 'Anon' is stupid and obvious.

It just doesn't make a mass of sense.

If he's willing to live away from his family and see them in spurts, as he is currently doing, there are job opportunities that would allow him to easily keep his family out of poverty.

If he has a university degree, teaching overseas in high value locations is an unpleasant but effective way to make a comfortable amount of money. Saudi, for example, starts at around 35k for someone with an undergraduate degree. While this salary doesn't look great, it includes accommodation, transport to and from work and is tax free. Most contracts will also include at least one ticket home during the year for the holidays, so he'll still see his child about as often. Saudi is one of the harder places I've been (he won't be able to drink or go out with friends, really. Just work and study, if he wants extra training) but I've seen a lot of my friends with fewer financial resources head off there for a year or two to support families or to save for education. Contractors like Amaco and Global Links are the best place to find these roles.

Lacking a formal qualification, joining the armed forces is a pretty effective way to provide a standard of care and functional standard of living.

Having had a child with someone with a disability is going to leave him in a place where he needs to take responsibility for the family he's created. Yes, the economy is bad. But this is really no excuse. There are ways to earn and provide. It's just that they're not fun, nor easy.

Blaming the system for providing the basics your grandchild needs seems wonderfully strange.

I am in no way associated with FKA Reader.

Now, this is what you said: "And neither parent has a full time, cushy municipal job where they can sit on their xxx and bait people on topix all day like you do."

You were the one who mentioned neither parent has a full time job. Or did you only mean cushy?

I ran a single head of household income at $8/hour through the EITC calculator and came up with a little over $3,000 - a far cry from what you claimed. If together they received over $7,000, either they are both claiming the child or someone isn't working full time.

If you don't like to be challenged on details, simply don't write them.

My one line posts are either questions you refuse to answer because they would trap you in your fantasy or pithy observations of your hypocrisy. One doesn't need to write an epic to make one's point (that last part was a little free advice).

Based on what you have said, your son doesn't appear to qualify for an EIC. Unless he has been lying on his tax return. Hmmmmmmm.

I received the credit once, during a year in which Iwas unemployed for a part of the year.

Frankly, SL it is very difficult to carry on meaningful discussion with you because whenever you are confronted with inaccuracies you dig in your heels and then load on a lot of unrelated arguments.

In this case you started out by decrying the welfare system that encourages the mother of your grandchild to stay single instead of marrying your stepson. Then it turns out you are not mad at welfare but the tax structure. Then you sah that is not what is keeping them from marrying but z desire to be better off financially first (BTW the best economic boost for them would be marriage).

And when all else fails you start name-calling and say you are being picked on.
