Yeah, I hate them too. But they were used as far back as when I was in college. As a Catholic schoolkid, everything as a date post-Christ was referred to Anno Domini. Never understood exactly why the birth of Christ was the division point for the "common era" other than it was a convenient point for dividing history for a common reference points for books.(Or sometimes, radically referred to as the "vulgar" era--which should set off a fundy Christian to read that one...)
The professor was a real crackpot who had fairly strange theories about Christianity (was Greek myth class but he never taught anything on it, just his rants, tenure FTW). He considered BC/AD to be "cultural imperialism"

In that case, I submit that

These liberal lunatic professors are the ones trying to ruin a generation of young Americans by poisoning their minds and hearts.

This guy was a real fossil, quite funny when you realized that no one in the class took him seriously.

Religions are all the same whether you're talking about Paganism, Christianity, Zoroastrianism or even the Muslim religion you boobs hate so much. The Christian religion just happened to be sanctioned by the Roman Empire, which is one of the reasons it grew to be so large. Think it as farm subsidies.
