I was at a Montgomery Inn in Cincy several years ago. I didn't see what the big deal was. I didn't say Smokey Bones was great, just that I liked them better than the others.
My son in law's parents are always raving about Montgomery Inn Cincinnati area. If they like it, I'm not going.

Montgomery Inn is to BBQ as McDonalds is to fine dining. Boiled ribs drowned in sauce is NOT BBQ.

When Damon's started in Columbus in the early to mid 80's, I used to go to the Continent location and it was really good. Soon after they started opening more restaurants statewide, the quality dropped dramatically. The last 2 times I ate there, I asked for my money back.

Anyone remember the Marble Gang on Mt. Vernon Ave.? Worth risking your life for.

After eating them downtown at the rib fest, I've not had any close to being that good. As for the pulled sandwich style, City BBQ had a good beef one, but the pork seemed bland.
And yes, Damon's was terrible.
I mean their food was unbelievably bad. I could never understand how that place grew into a chain.

Maybe that's why I never liked city. I always get pulled pork and to me its bland. Their meat is very tender and juicy, I give them that.

... I was too rough on Hoggys. I liked them at first but I just got tired of them.

I like the BBQ sauce at Smokey Bones.

It's the type of food you sorta crave when you're tired of eating the same ole same ole fast food crap. I've only had them for lunch, which was due to them being near a job we were on. I doubt I'd ever travel on off time to dine at any.

I can't recall if it was Smokey Bones at one or both, but I thought the one in Powell was better than the one in Gahanna.

We ate at Hoggy's almost every other day for 8 months. I built a house around the corner from the Linworth location back in 98' and I too got sick and tired of it, however...the waitress were nice to flirt with.

I'll try the pulled beef next time. Maybe I'll have a change of heart.

I agree about the change of pace.

I still can't stop going off on Damon's. That place was terrible!

The original Damon's was on East Broad Street near Town and Country. Some Jew started it and supposedly the ribs were very good. But I was always skeptical as Jews aren't exactly known for fine dining. Yes I have also heard that the Marble Gang is pretty good. No I will not park the car there and leave it unattended.
