Has anyone tried to cancel their membership before your term date? I just wonder what all is involved. I really want to cancel and "be done" with Urban Active. Suggestions?
If you are in a term membership I think you have to pay $250 or 50% of the remaining contract. Whichever is greater.

It is in the Contract wrote:

Great! So, in section 47 of the personal training contract, it says that "if a trainer "no shows" and there is no other trainer available at that time, Urban Active will provide the client with one training session." Are you aware that trainers are not even aware that this provision even exists and that a free session has never been granted to anyone? Urban Active doesn't adhere to their own contract, makes up new provisions, and then blames others for not reading it. Anyone who says "it is in the contract" is just making it worse for Urban Active. Because, yes, there are a lot of things IN THE CONTRACT that Urban Active flagrantly ignores.
I got my free traing session when my trainer was not available, twice. Guess this is not happening at every gym.

They are bad -- probably going under. Very dishonest and sketchy business practices. Here in Charlotte the facility is only seven months old, but getting worn down around the heels. Not maintained -- pool isn't always clean.

I considered joining the Urban Active in Grandview when it opened, I did a search to get an idea of how much their monthly fee was. Google search showed forums devoted to how people had been ripped off by this company. Many ppl had the same complaints as in class action. Many comments about how never to give them your bank acct # b/c it is impossible to get them to stop withdrawing from your acct. No straight answers on how much a membership costs. Basically that the employees will charge you what they think you will pay. I'm glad I passed. It's too bad b/c a company this bad won't be around for long, and Grandview needs the tax base. Buyer Beware!

<quoted text> I do agree with you. Do you see how our government will attack business's that aren't Government owed, I'm sure some type of government agency will step in and tell the owner's they violated people's rights and should be punished. Look at what the government did to me and my wife. We tried to get an attorney but, no luck because it's against the government. It is awful to misinform custormer's all for money and everybody is **** off but, this is not has bad has the situation's that this government put me and my wife through? We had gun's pulled on us and the hearing officer wanted me to grab the gun? My wife was fired from her first job and the second job she was forced out. A week after the IC guard tried to kill everybody at the IC office on march 17,2010 the church next to our home caught fire and the suspect while in custody slit his wrist and now we will never know whom sent this young man to start this fire and WE believe I was being lured out side that night but, that second attempt on my life failed again. So, I hope all you unhappy customer's get over your pain and suffering. This little s**t gets all this attention and WE can't get anybody to help us.
I feel for you but your story really had nothing to do with this forum

Dirty pools. Sauna's never cleaned. Sauna doesn't work often times at Graceland. I've complained many times. I dread the day I try to cancel.

I used to go to UA in Hilliard and I never had any issues. I never went for the month to month contract and never agreed to their first offers. I had an 18 month membership paid upfront for $299. That comes out to be about $16.61 per month, no additional money was ever needed or taken. I did not talk to the staff or trainers as I felt that the real reason I was there was to work out on my own and didn't bother with the people. Therefore they we never rude to me and I was never bothered by them.

This happened to me. I signed up they failed to provide a copy and when I was unable to use the professional trainer due to financial concerns they would not release me from the contract and indicated I had to pay more to get out of it.
Initially what was presented was you can get this great month to month, if you need to cancel, it is ok, we just need a 30 day notice and you have already paid first and last month. This is not the case. There is a clause in the contract that you dont get a copy of that they will gouge you for additional fees.
Do not sign up. It is a hassle to get out of it.

I wanted to share that I personally love Urban Active in New Albany and I have been a member for several years with no issues - only positive experiences!
I enrolled for personal training and love it - Don, my personal trainer is fantastic, passionate about fitness and nothing but helpful and encouraging - constantly checking in on my progress! Nick was also very helpful when he sold me the package and explained all the details to my satisfaction!
There are good experiences out there too!!
I actually really loved going to my local gym too until I had to cancel because I was moving out of state where there is not a UA. Trying cancelling or downgrading your membership and you won't have anything else nice to say about the company. As long as they're getting your money there won't be problems.

State Fire Marshall should close them down for overcrowding! Also,no lockers, long waits for equipment, filthy place! Oftentimes, returned home because I couldn't find a parking space after circling for 10-15 minutes. It would have been better to purchase the Jane Fonda exercise dvd on eBay for 99 cents. Consumer beware of this place.

I had a membership over 6 years ago, I ended it when my contract was up. Went to two other gyms since then and suddenly I have these foreign morons calling me saying that they work for urban actives collection department and that I owe $400+ for my membership that I RECENTLY CANCELLED. LOL. Get the f*** out of here. This is how pathetic companies are..... Really, you think you can have people who speak crap English call and bs people and tell them they owe for a membership from almost 8 years ago yet when I ask what gym I signed up at and when I cancelled my membership and how I haven't heard anything about it til now they just sit there silent and then repeat that they are calling to collect. F***ing Morons.

Nick is really intense, and some (pardon my lack of correct terms) people who are less fit can't handle the effort needed. Nicks a great guy, he just pushes your limits, I love that though.
