Only after reducing discretionary spending to ZERO and furloughing most federal employees one day every two weeks. And then raising the ceiling only enough to meet mandatory obligations.

The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. … Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that ‘the buck stops here. Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better. - Barack Obama, 2006

It's very disingenuous to complain about foreign entities owning America when you have no problems with the Bush family in busiiness with the Bin Laden family and you keep buying Chinese crap from WalMart. We really should rid our nation of hillbillies. They're dragging the intelligent people down with their God and gun nonsense.

Personally, I think the Bush family was behind all that 9/11 destruction with their Bin Laden connection. Didnt they fly members of the family out of the country on the taxpayer dime??

interesting topic; and comments.

debt ceiling?

define ceiling.

we have a debt elevator. Where is the ceiling?

if you continue to raise ceiling, are you not adding floors the elevator climbs.

we are on the 1400th floor of the building currently.

at what floor will space rip the building top off?

then end of this term the projection is we reach the 1900th floor.

Republicans will always cave in to the Democrats. Obama is driving this nation so deeply in debt that there will be no civilized way out. China is ready to destroy us while Obama fiddles.
