A very good question. Christianity was first misunderstood by early Christians, and later hijacked by the Roman Empire and perverted from within. At the Council of Nicea the Emperor arbitrarily determined which books were allegedly from God, and imposed a death sentence on those holding unauthorized scripture.

Christianity, in one sense, is a religion based on human sacrifice. Had Jesus lived 1700 years later among the Hasidic Jews of eastern Europe, this whole bulls---t about his dying for our sins would never have been invented. Because by then Judaism had long since forgotten the whole concept of sacrifice, and evolved into a superior religion based on ethics and compassion.
