Easterbrook disputes WWU faculty global warming opinions

There are 3 comments on the Bellingham Herald story from Apr 14, 2013, titled Easterbrook disputes WWU faculty global warming opinions. In it, Bellingham Herald reports that:

"WWU faculty find overwhelming scientific evidence to support global warming." Of course there is overwhelming evidence of global warming! Everyone agrees! But that doesn't prove it was caused by carbon dioxide! The authors fail to understand: Multiple periods of intense warming occurred 10,000-to-15,000 years ago.

Easterbrook decries how unfair the Bellingham Herald is to him. But later he demeans the Herald stating it was unworthy of scientific opinion. In nearly the same breath, Easterbrook pushes the totally unworthy & non-survey quality of the Oregon petition. Easterbrook hold the worthless petition up for all the toxic AGW deniers to cheer. Easterbrook trots out the argument that CO2 provides far to little quantity to have AGW effects.

"Of course there is overwhelming evidence of global warming!"

Not of course. It took decades of serious research by very skeptical scientists for the evidence to reach 'undeniable' status.

"Everyone agrees!"

Nope. Even in the climate sciences, only 97% agree. There is still a 3% core of scientists trying to 'break' the theory. They have, so far, failed to find any flaw to exploit.

"But that doesn't prove it was caused by carbon dioxide!"

Three errors in one sentence. What a maroon..

One is that AGW theory doesn't claim that AGW is 100% caused by AGW. It says that MOST of the warming is by GHG's and the greenhouse effect and that the dominant Greenhouse Gas involved is Co2.

The second error is that it is a question of 'the consensus'. The fact that all the relevant experts are convinced of AGW theory just shows that it is a 'a well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world that can incorporate facts, laws, inferences, and tested hypotheses". AKA science.

And proof is a concept that only works in artificial logical frameworks like mathematics. Science is about explanations, not logical reductions.

My opinion is that Easterbrook is correct. Little is known about the reaction of atmospheric gasses with solar radiation. Those who draw conclusions from popular opinion ignore science. Please consider that carbon dioxide may be a reactant in the fusion reaction that creates ozone. Warming may be due to holes in the ozone layer, only to be patched by MORE carbon dioxide. Thanks, Bill
