Gary Barker is an excellent writer. I have been fortunate enough to get copies of a couple of non-published fiction books of his and they are every bit as good as Grisham or Nelson Demille. The Gazette is a little too tame for me now. I miss the days of Townsend and Mattox. Townsend was an arse but I got along great with Scoop and miss his stories on the happenings around town.

I will have to check on those, CommonSense...

Yeah, the gazette anymore it is too "polite" for me to read. Same stories that are in the other paper. I preferred it when there were stories that questioned things that are normally overlooked or just tolerated.

That's what hush money does - keeps things out of the news that is supposed to be kept secret

hush money also keeps a paper printing each week.
no hush money no ad dollars dont ya know

scoop should know all about that, since that is what cost him his job at the gazette in the first place

before ya get wrong idea, it was because townsend would not hush and the scoop kept on writing all the bad things that caused him to have to seek work elsewhere as a news reporter

This is true, but hush money will eventually run out then what will keep it printing each week. Ad sales are definitely not keeping that paper alive - there aren't any!
Townsend got rich from the hush money, not Scoop. He is somewhere living high on the hog laughing at the idiots who paid for his retirement.

Glad to see the Barker's have an outlet for all their troubles ..... A public diary, who would have ever thought that so many rich men would pay for such a thing!

They might have had good reason to to do that.
Maybe they were terrified that some more little dark secrets were getting ready to be made public.
I wonder how much some of the admidinstrators have had their salary raised now that they "took care of business"
And what's up with Jeff Burke?
Is that a forbidden subject or what?

Garry is my uncle. Let me tell you, no one owns that man. If you think differently, just go ask him--you'll get an earful!

I do agree that the school board is a corrupt bunch of idiots, though.
