No, you can't attempt to tan in front of the transit and end up with a spot.

I watched it on TV. The NASA announcers were annoying so I put it on mute. Now I can say I saw it I guess, although I doubt the topic will ever come up.

Anomalies occur in space all the time and we never think about them nor are affected by them. This one would have been no different without the PR.
How about the guy who discovered an asteroid heading toward earth by using Google Sky? He discovered it before any scientists. The pictures are quite impressive of a huge rock approaching.
