If you notice, unlike most threads on topix, some of us here are treating you with love. We are not name calling or trying to be mean. We are members of AA. I have 17 years sober. I did not get 17 years by being angry. You really should see your sponsor about this. I have seen people go out over anger and resentments. Unfortunately, some of them died. I hope that you do not end up taking a drink because you wanted to hold on to your resentment. I hope that you do not die. This is my last post to you as you really need to be discussing this with your sponsor so you can begin to heal and then enjoy the gifts that sobriety has to offer. I will keep you in my prayers.
i was highered for this nothing personal - glad your doing well - no joke - the non smoker has over reached - pit bull is completly un leashed . does not go back in to pen untill mission is complete . this will not in any way shape or forum make me drink . under control. hell is unpon the non smoker that has entered our camp. in a place of the county where smoking is ok by law.... two hall are trying to be taken over . misson - take action . breakdown those who are in our way . not fun at .in control. and plan is in place . tables must be turneed

i will not let down the smokers of A.A. - our war begains now- i have started by- getting tgether our 36 members on a 12;00 meeting where 16 will attend at the 72 street in gladstone meeting that use to be smoking , now no smoking at all in a county where smoking is excepted by law. plan is to have at least 4 in each room that control the meeting and take up the intire hour so that no one can speak at all . total control.how ever you are exspected to go to your regular meeting to maintain your not drink . the idea is to repeat this 4 to 5 times a week to run off people from this hall. not right but remember your cause . remember they have many other places they can go to maintain there life. dont let it get to your heart and remember what they have done to your group with out a care for the smoker.take back whats yours than kept you from taking another drink. and remember war is hell. people will suffer like you and i have had to suffer under the hands of the non smoker . we will have support groups set up to help you deal with pts sindrom. we will run this very profesional . need a day off from war to keep you strong , we are there with persons in our group that you can count on that understand just how hard war is on the minds of our fellow members . test yourself on how strong you have become , time to face your fears and test your strenth. you will soon see the true meaning of a.a. -lets take it to those who dare take your rights .

to you JOY - been sober for 26 yrs and never want to drink again - but you and others like you will not push us to start another aa hall that stands a chance of being taken over . we stand and fight for these halls that where all ready ours. we let the non smoker in out of love . then they killed us with there laws and hate of the smoker. we will crush in any way we can with in the law . pay back - remember i was highered by people that no my past . good at this and what i do . its a part of me i like . if you were under fire it is i that comes running to save you. you injoy our freedoms and then stick your fellow aa member in the back. we are not dead only wounded by our own kind.

Most AA meetings in my area are now non smoking. Some do take a break so the smokers can go out for a smoke. BUT?????how do they work, no workplace allows smoking. They should grow up and stop acting like just because they stopped drinking we owe them some bonus' in life.

yes most are now non smoking -so keep the hell out of my back yard- remember ,the part of town where i live allows smoking by law. our chapter has been taken over by a few non smokers that took it apon themselves to remove choice.... its all or nothing with you non smokers. this is not a work place nor is it the law. its a place to go where drunks meet to support one another on staying sober- in the big book there is nothing about forceing your fellow member to not smoke. dont smoke here or the hell with you or why dont you smokers go start you own meeting some place else- A.A. is turning into a place that has very little to do with our true perpouse . stop drinking , it gets better - this was intended to be a nutral zoon on issues where we are diffrent. you have faults , i have faults. but together with out judgeing . we can stay sober. nothing more and nothing less. the longer you go and the more you learn- then personal decisions within ones self will slowly change. but to force---- you cant force a drinking to do what they can not do themselves. compassion for one anothers bad habits untill he or she changes on there own through time. you non smokers are hell bent on pushing out apart of the public that also has rights and we want to stay sober also .

coffee is a drug also - i would like to see more meetings where coffee is not allowed- a.a. over the years has become a bunch of drunk hoped up on a new drug called coffee. puts you on edge and cause you behavior to be some what angry, stressed, uncntrollable out burst of rambleing words full of rage. lets add that to our new list of things that have nothing to do with why we are there along with the new non smoking policy's that have been inforced by a handfull of non smokers. do this for me to let me no you care also about my program that keeps me sober. aa sure has alot of rules anymore that have nothing to do with staying sober-whats one more rule going to hurt.we can even change he name to . wecome to aa-na-smoke free- coffee free - sex free- must wear shoesand shit- be clean-do what you are told or your not wanted here meeting -comply or get the hell out go kill yourself on your own time meetings - and most of all we love you and pleasa be respectfull of others rules that have nothing to do with why we are here. it does get better if you do what you are told.we can force you to be better - after all we no better than you whats good for you . place i want to be- and live .you people who stick your nose in to my bizz saved my life.i will be sure to send my fellow drunk there that can not manage all aspects of his or her's life again thanks

smokers fight back -the only way to win the fight in your smoke free a.a. hall is to hit where it hurts. money money money . we have contacted the u.s. attorney's office and filed a complaint on the behalf of -americans disabities act- to persue those who are not in complyance ,making acess for those with dissability's . to building and bathrooms. we found that there where many that were not . also cotacted fire codes office to look at the number of people pre meeting and electrical codes - and hazards that may be unsafe . your appointed pit bull has become completly unleashed and will look into other ways of making you meetings a better exspereance . stay sober - hang in there we are on . you smokers are allowed to file any complaints or vialation than you see that are unfair or unsafe ....... thanks to all for being so kind in your letters of support

I have observed patients at 4 different rehab centers over the last 2 years and have seen more patients leave the program due to not being able to smoke cigarettes, than not being able to use their drug of choice.

AA has amazing results when it comest to treating addictions. NA and other 12 step spin offs seem to have less success rates.

Some of you simply don't know enough about the situation to speak about it.

Sorry to hear that, but for someone like me that absolutely hates smoking, not sure I can empathize. My only answer is to give out nicotine patches if they cannot go without a ciggy for the amount of time that the meeting is underway. That is what folks do when they have a long flight.

Life sucks sometimes. It sure did back when people had to endure the horrible second hand smoke before indoor smoking bans were in place. Have you ever been on an overseas flight back in the day when people could smoke on airplanes? Freaking nightmare.

Sorry for the folks who are working on their addiction, but remember, everyday they have a choice. When I was a kid and lived with a smoker, I did not have a choice. When I had to fly overseas, I had to breathe that horrible air for 14 hours. Sorry, no sympathy here. Wear a patch or tough it out.

If the heath hazard of second-hand smoke didn't exist, I'd probably agree with you, but that isn't the case. In my state, there are treatment facilities that allow smoking; client advocates need to address the need. If that's not available, then a nicotine patch will be administered. As a nurse, I make sure that my patient that smoke are offered the patch. As a recovering alcoholic and recovering nicotine addict, I certainly know the challenges.

Seriously, the smell alone is not enough to say that smoking is a hazard? The sh!t stinks like hell. It can actually make some folks puke if they have to breath that crap with no escape. Opening a window is not enough.

The bottom line is the sh!t stinks. It ruins your clothes, it clings to the curtains, stains the walls, wtf! Even if it was not a health hazard, it is incredibly insensitive and rude to force others to smell that crap!!!!!!

So let's say there happens to be an alcoholic in treatment who does not smoke, why would anyone think that this person who happens to have only one addiction be less deserving of fresh air because the majority of alcoholics are smokers? See how messed-up that logic is? Sorry, but might as well work on all addictions while in treatment and let humans breathe clean air.

As you must know, smoking is never permitted inside the building or within so many feet of an entrance. Besides, the majority of these facilities are non-smoking, so people who cannot tolerate even the odor of smoke can easily avoid smoke-related issues in treatment centers. Some treatment centers, but not many, have smoking areas outside. I hope that clears it up for you. It would be swell if no one ever smokes, but, for now, that's not the way it is.
