Denied jobs, blacks in Iowa test new bias theory

Feb 17, 2012 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: ABC 33/40

After years of litigation, a judge will soon decide whether to grant thousands of black employees and job applicants monetary damages for hiring practices used by every agency of Iowa state government that they say has disadvantaged them for decades.

What about people who knew they wouldn't get hired so they didn't even apply, they deserve to be paid as much as those that did.

Institutional racism in this country is real and dates back to the founding or our institutions when it was unheard of for blacks to be included, no matter what their qualifications or merit. Things have not changed.

If just the situations are considered where "merit" is not a factor---and that is the issue, there is still a huge problem with institutional racism, and that is what is "going to destroy this nation", and of course contributing to the nations demise is the gross denial by the right that there is a problem.

Of course there are fewer minorities hired in the state of Iowa. It's 91% white! And how do you hold a whole state accountable for sub-conscience discrimination?

And if this goes through, I'm going to sue every company that has failed to hire me because subconsciously they discriminate against veterans.

If lawsuits that basically say 'all white people have hidden prejudice blacks must be compensated for' are going to become commonplace, how long do you believe the USA can survive?
It is no secret black people have the same 'opportunities' in the USA as everyone else does. The fact we have successful black people in the USA proves that.
It is also no surprise that some black people would like to blame others for their lot in life. White people do it too when they are unhappy with what they have been able to accomplish.
See that is the problem. It is not necessarily individual white folks that are the problem. It is the institutions themselves. The way they are founded.

For instance, take law-enforcement. It does not matter what color an officer is, when he/she carries out department policy they can be carrying out racist policy that was put in place with the founding of the institution they repesent. It is one of few situations where a black can be racist againt a black.

Institutional racism is what the Iowa lawsuit is about and as it states the problem is nationwide.

A totally black police department that carries out white institutional police policy can act racist against all blacks it is sworn to serve, simply because the institution of the police is racist by nature and founding. Most institutions in this nation were founded by whites for whites with no consideration of other races as worthy of being equals. Everything was based on being white, or not black. That's just the way it was, and remains to a great extent.

It really has little or nothing to do with individual whites, other than some not being able to see the reality of the situation and its ramifications.

Just so they don't do it based on race. Some veterans use their military training to be part of gangs that go about committing crimes and challenging the police. This is nothing new but it is escalating creating unusual problems for law-enforcement who are not trained to handle it.

The problem I see here is that the AA population percentage in Iowa is pretty much the same as the AA employment percentage in Iowa government.
This is a state where 91% of the residents are white. It makes sense that the pool of qualified black people for government positions is going to small in the first place, and perhaps many of the black people with skills are already running their own businesses or employed in the private sector?
We are just going to blindly accept that every single AA that applied for a government job in Iowa was actually deserving of a position?
Have you ever conducted job interviews...?
IMO, this is a case of democrats trying to explain away years of government sponsored racism in the form of affirmative action and racial quotas failing to raise the standard of living for black people so they can avoid talking about the actual factors such as the broken down AA family structure and purposely terrible union controlled public schools.

>>>We are just going to blindly accept that every single AA that applied for a government job in Iowa was actually deserving of a position?<<<

Again, that is the hard part to grasp. It is not so much that an applicant,black/white,red,brow n, was denied a job as it is HOW the denial took place, on what basis, what policy. Blacks are not being denied on same grounds as whites are denied, and say again, this is because of ingrained, innate institutional policy.

So gang affiliations are sufficient in your opinion to deny someone employment?
I'd think criminal behavior could be reason to deny someone employment. It might be at my company, but then I've been out of market so long that maybe applications don't even inquire about criminal behavior anymore.

I am sure the millions of unemployed white people would agree with you.
It is interesting to note that roughly 15 million African Americans are employed in the USA while roughly 15 million white Americans need jobs.
Face it, some people are not qualified to do much beyond cleaning toilets yet they still have big dreams. They are not ever going to look to themselves as the problem with attaining those dreams...!

>>>They are not ever going to look to themselves as the problem with attaining those dreams<<<

And that is pretty much true across black and white, except they have different realities of the world in which they live.

Blacks have always in these United States, had to learn the white world but whites have not had to learn the black world.

Oddly enough race relations tend to be better in the South than in the North. That is due mostly do blacks and whites growing up together and knowing each others humanity, where in the North many whites never came in contact with blacks or very superficially at best.

Could you explain more how the institution of 'police' is inherently racist?
<quoted text>
How does this apply to the three branches of government of the USA.
Last I checked the USA has a black person on the Supreme Court, as President and multiple examples can be found in the Congress.
Limited access to resources of the institution based on race. A police officer black or white who approaches blacks in a condemning way regardless of blacks demeanor.

Ever wonder why Thoma NEVER speaks but acquiesces to Scalia, Roberts, and conservatives on Bench? Why the President is constantly attacked based on racial overtones, and just look at comments on the internet that are racial about Obama. Those behaviours represent the tone of this nation, and Obama makes some decisions that go against his race and for no reason other than the institutional racism that is innate in the office of President. Congress legislates for the same reasons. They represent the racism that is from society and instutionalized in the branches of our government.

Why do you think it is that anytime Congress or White House does anything that seems to favor blacks over whites there is a cry out from the larger society? Given the reverse and privilege, not much is said, if anything at all, for it is expected to be that way. Our institutions relfect those expectations from the larger society.

Who wants to hire people who have a non-existent work ethic? 99% of simians I've ever worked with were lazy and thought they should be paid just for showing up,also resented being told what to do,even though they couldn't properly carry out thier assigned duties.

imagine if white people did the same thing...

If white people were under 10% in any state, do you really think they would have any power or authority in anything?

We all know they wouldn't, so the entire argument of 'institutional racism' is rubbish and hogwash.

The only reason white people have any rights at all in this country is because of our majority status, if that doesn't hold we will be less than 3/5ths of human being, as evidenced by the frequent hypocritical black racism that permeates this forum.
