Are some of you under the impression that HD acted alone? It is a BOARD after all. She is just going under the bus.

I personally think she is much better suited to lead the University than Sullivan.

Plus she is much hotter!

wondering ...couldn't agree with you more...sullivan is the absolute pits when it comes to leading and representing the university...I would like to know what the BOV saw in her in the first place....If she was the best candidate for president of the university then I would've rather seen the presidency gone vacant until a better candidate could have been found.....

As a current undergrad at UVA it saddens me to see there is so much animosity and almost hatred towards us students. It took me years and hours of studying to get into a University that I love deeply. At UVA, there is an honor code we write on each test, each assignment, each paper we write. This is meaningful to not only me, but to every student at UVA. If a student breaks the code of honor by lying, cheating, stealing, etc. Suspension from the University is almost a given if found guilty, expulsion is not out of the question by any means. Dragas has broken this code of honor, along with other members of the board. It infuriates and saddens me to know she is still running this board. She needs to go. This is our University, along with all staff and faculty. To not have a voice as a student hear, is a shame and a travesty. In regards to Sullivan, I have met her personally and she is the epitome of grace. Just as how she handled her ousting and reinstatement. I want nothing more than Helen Dragas to no longer be a member of the BOV or the University community. She has made her arrogance and selfishness known and it is time for her to go. UVA is the greatest thing that has ever happened to me and I think Dragas is the worst thing to happen to UVA. I hope she is denied reinstatement.

Wonder who is really behind the student protest...students are to dumb, uninterested and naive to do something like this on their own...
Sulivan should never have been hired in the first place and her firing should have stood....she makes an absolutely horrible image when making public appearances on the part of the university....
Now how would you know that, Mary?
I completely agree

When will these naive undergraduate students learn that honor means NOTHING when you have bought and paid-for politicians in your pocket? They need to wake-up and realize the only way to succeed is to use Daddy's money and buy your way into 97top spots in Virginia. Helen's so close to these top (for now) politicians and they are so lucky to have her - they'll never get colon cancer because she'll be able to see it in the cell stage. Wake up you silly faculty members and students, UVA was sold pretty cheaply - honor & integrity are a thing of the past. Maybe Penn State is hiring...

The students ARE the ones who absolutely should have a say in this process - after all, it is THEIR school. UVA isn't just exclusive to the Board, faculty, or to Politicians; it exists for the students, and they aren't dummies. And the idea really is that the process should have been transparent, which is wasn't - a la Dragas - and still isn't - I can only assume, because SHE is still there! Then there is Governor McDonnell and the monied supporters - don't get me started! This, by the way, is NOT just a personnel issue - it is an issue which defines students, faculty, and trustees alike, and at least the voting, by individual name, should have been published, and students should most certainly be represented on the Board, and have a vote.
I am NOT making a case for or against Dragas........I am saying the G.D. students should NOT be involved in this decision.
Imagine if the HIGH SCHOOL kids got to be involved with Board of directors and other major decisions about the schools. Let the ADULTS be ADULTS and the kids be kids....

Tom,

1) college students are adults. I don't care if they can often be called adolescent by their behaviors. This is a population of largely 18-22 yr olds. In other words - adults.

2) its the Student Council. Every University has something like this or similar. Its the formal organization through which students do ... well, exactly what they are doing. Its the formal and institutionalized way that students are able to make their interests, wishes, ideas, etc. known. So the Student Council, by commenting on this is doing what it is supposed to do. It is not over stepping its bounds or acting immaturely or anything of that nature.

I'm sorry if you think a University should be a giant high school overseen by an iron-fisted autocracy or oligarchy. But that's not how they work and thank goodness for that.

I disagree.
I think Dragas & Sullivan had a conflict of personalities. That's ONE of the REASONS why Dragas ousted her. There's too many people that work at UVA that act like Dragas. Who wants to work there or go to school under those circumstances?

No, no, no, Rex. That is not for you to worry about. Haven't you been paying attention?
