Ahh nothing like the sound of the well-oiled health care industrial complex planning it's next profit center. Wonder what an X-ray will cost at this new facility?

You are right on the money. Where are they getting the money in this economy?

From the health insurance payments of the minority in this town that actually work and pay for health insurance.

The waiting room of the existing UVA pharmacy that supplies the voting majority looks like the bar scene from the movie "Star Wars".

Medicare (800 billion annually) and insured folks like me with high-deductible employer insurance policies paying the 400% markup on remaining member responsibility. My favorite professor in college always talked about how we should fear the MIC. Frankly, the HCIC is far more terrifying. It is the main driver of our deficit and will end up burying this country if things don't change. People don't seem to understand what $3 aspirin is doing to our economy.

It's cheaper to fly to another country to obtain medical care.

Pharmacueticals rule in this country, they have congress in their pocket so its money in the bank. But we let it happen so in any case its still our fault. Blaming a certain segment of our society is dumb, we all voted for this corruption to happen.

I could fly to the Bahamas and back twice for less than what a lumbar x-ray costs at the new Martha Jefferson. Bet I could throw in an x-ray in Nassau and possibly spend less than just driving to MJ, of course assuming your time is worth $0. It's funny, we sit around and complain about the commercial airline industry and their relatively legitimate baggage fees as a response to their exploding costs (jet fuel, lubricants, etc). Meanwhile, an industry with costs rising at a marginal rate absolutely torches the American people. How does it cost more to get an x-ray than it does to be thrust to 30,000 feet in an aluminum missile 4 times over? And don't tell me it's because there are 100 people on the plane - the profit margins are still grossly disproportional. The real fleecing of America happens around the clock to every single one of us and nowhere near enough people are talking about it. Could it have something to do with the fact that the health care lobby in Washington absolutely dwarfs that of the oil & gas, aerospace, and defense lobbies combined? Money talks, but in many cases it shuts people up.

SEE the Time magazine cover story "Why Medical Costs are Killing Us". It explains why hospitals like UVA are on a constant building frenzy.

Their money comes from their indentured servants they call employees! No wage increases for six years gives uva a lot of money to play with. The only people to get raises in facility management in the last few years are salary employees that make over $75,000 a year.
If you are in the worst of uva's minority section (White Male) you will never see any real money!

the bubble will burst
real income for the masses has been declining for decades, while health care costs have moved in the opposite direction

"The latest Census Bureau data shows that one in two Americans currently falls into either the “low income” category or is living in poverty. Low-income is defined as those earning between 100 and 199 percent of the poverty level. Adjusted for inflation, the earnings for the bottom 20 percent of families have dropped from $16,788 in 1979 to just under $15,000. Earnings for the next 20 percent have been stuck at $37,000."

http://truth-out.org/news/item/14673-nine-eco...

"Research from 2010 shows that soaring healthcare costs indicate that a couple must sock away $250,000 for medical expenses, taking into consideration Medicare premiums, copayments and deductibles, out-of-pocket prescription costs, and a life expectancy of 85 for women and 82 for men."

Its sad that UVA Medical Center employees have to hear/read about this on the NBC29 news website. Nothing has been told to employees.

Hope it isn't near all that cluster flock around the main hospital.
Ideal location would be around Fontaine Park...

Is they looked the information was available. It was shown as in the design process already in the January University Architect's current projects list. I they build it as the design shows in that document it likes like it will further clutter access to the main entrance.

If your job is in such demand, why don't you find someone to pay you more?

On Anderson 360, they were talking about CEO's of hospitals making million dollar salaries & over charging people for the smallest of things, like the little medicine cups costing hundreds if dollars etc. Look at the website.
Do they get their money from donors? Maybe the employees that haven't gotten raises for years will get a raise----probably not!

Why don't you shut the f--k up! Why do you make more money than the regular staff at UVA that have worked there more years than you? Why don't you take a decrease in your pay, so the hard working people can have a raise, moron!
