Is the police surprised that a victim doesn't want to report after all the victim blaming. If she is a uva student she knows nothing gets done. SHAME ON LAW ENFORCEMENT. The women of Charlottesville, especially the students have never been safe. Wasn't it Chief Gibson that put his big foot in his mouth.

As for the Uva hospital, their forensic department is totally unreliable!!!!!!!!!!

No one trusts the police, the CA, the hospital or UVA when it comes to rapes.

It's a DISGUSTING and CORRUPT system.

How does the person expect to get justince on these people if they don't report it. Also, the hospital has to get the DNA. Let the hospital and police help you and maybe help another person that this could happen to. Get justice and put these scumb bags behind bars. YOU did nothing wrong! Always rembmer that. I'm sure even if you report it and go to the police there has to be some sort of confidentuality if you don't want your name in the public or the people that did this to know you told. If your not doing it because your scared to tell. I can't imagine your pain and how scared you must be. But remember you did nothing wrong and you are strong. I pray they find them and put them away under the jail.

Anything is possible, I sure hope someone wouldn't lie about something so serious. But, really if they want to know where the information is coming from and if this person did it via computer, all they have to do is trace back the URL to their computer and tadaaa there it is there person that it came from. Shouldn't be that hard.
Ps I heard the same thing about the Harrington case, that it was the officer/sheriff whatever he was in Greene that killed himself not long after she went missing, but you know how the rumor mill goes. Public thinks they solved a case and people get to talking. I still pray for justice for her and her family.

It is, in fact, highly unlikely that someone would falsely report a sexual assault. Over 80% of sexual assaults are never reported, so the flaw is not in the survivor's judgment but in the system itself. Furthermore, stories like these only serve to discourage future reporting because survivors are led to expect that their stories will be disbelieved. There is one thing you can do for survivors of sexual assault: believe them.

Even if the poor lady that suffered this attack comes forward, it will be swept under the rug by a large death star of charlottesville!

Actually the opposite is true, it is a fact that most sexual assaults that are reported are fictitious. Not sure where you get your facts but in my career I have seen more made up allegations than I have real cases, the alleged victim usually makes the allegations to get back at a person or for attention. Most real rape or sexual assault cases usually go unreported unfortunately. I have only had one person report it but decided to not follow through with it in my years of service and it was the real deal. Sadly the suspect in that situation will probably take advantage of many more women because the victim refused to prosecute.

The only reason they released the information was to make students aware that this alleged incident may have occurred. If you think about it they had no choice and until the victim comes forward they have no case. I would want my daughter (if I had one) to be aware that this might have occurred if nothing else so that she was more aware of her surroundings and would hopefully use better judgement than to walk alone at 0230am. This release was a very responsible decision made by Chief Gibson and I applaud him for it.

Too many females falsely accuse men of sexual assualt, thus messing up or completely ruining the mans life , while lying females get a small fine for filing a false police report......

You are right. Most rapes and robberies around here go unreported due to embarrassment, shame, or the fear that daddy and mommy back up north might find out that junior was trying to buy drugs downtown and the sellers realized they could get money without sticking to the rules of basic commerce. Many a naive coed has taken a "homeless" waif home with her for altruistic purposes and she got a lot more than she bargained for. Only the retired cops, EMT's and firefighters can speak even halfway honestly about these matters, of course, since their pension is safely in hand..........

Hello? How many of you people have lived in this town since 1980? The UVA students use to report a rape every dam* day for years b/c they got drunk and had sex and then screamed rape! There was a man back in 1983 that was FALSELY ACCUSED of raping a woman at her apt. complex. She sued the apt. complex and got miliions of dollars while that 19 YEAR OLD YOUNG MAN spent quite a few years in prison and HE WAS INNOCENT!!! SO PEOPLE STOP YOUR DAM* LYING!!!

Those daily rapists got away with a lot on campus.
Good thing they didn't frequent the apt complexes as much.
