Sad, but I wonder why they just didnt move the whole church? Ive seen buildings larger than this one, jacked up, wheels run under them, and tooled on down the road for rebuilding at a different site.

I have been following this since the beginning. The congregation fought it at first. They were given the option of moving the structure or total buy out. They had outgrown the present building and wanted a larger structure. It was their choice to go with the buy out and build a new church that better suited the needs of a modern congregation to gather for potlucks and revivals. Too bad the new space doesn't give them more parking options. Best of Life in your new digs!

What about the large oak tree that is older than the United States?

I remember reading about this church at the Albemarle County Historical Society. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember that it was one of the first churches in the area started and built by former African-American slaves who stayed in the area after emancipation by the 13th Amendment. I understand the need to expand the runway, but surely they can save more than just the windows. The signs on the building date it to 1875, 9 years after the ratification of the 13th Amendment. Maybe I'll go look at it just once before its gone.

most ironic that this occurs to a historic church now if they could only do the same for the 40 plus years of idiots who oppose the by pass.

For anyone who enjoys nature and God's beautiful creations, you owe it to yourself, family and friends to visit this site and take a few photos of that 200 plus year old oak tree, before progress demands it's demise.

The tree, with the Blue Ridge Mountains in the background is the perfect setting to appreciate this wonderful Earth.

more to come

Yeah. The hypocrisy that you practice is reserved for the ignorant pre-judicial lowlifes like yourself.

Do you realize that just about every topic you post against is civil until you add to it? How useless a human being do you have to be? You must have really lived a very miserable life.

It's too bad none of the historical preservation organizations purchased the building and moved it where it can maybe used as a museum.

I hope they can save that Oak Tree as well. They're welcome to move it on my front yard if they want to.

The oak tree is the second largest in the state of VA. The largest is in Warfield.

I rejoice in the improvement of bulldozing another church to the ground = Progress. One less hive of hate for children to be raped and old people pillaged.

Good Work .

Now , Why would anyone have to be paid to take this landmark away , People will carry that thing off piece by piece to re purposeed , right down to hand crafted birdhouses.

Dear Jesus , forgive them for they know not what they do .

It's got to be that Nuclear Plant makes everybody so ditzy on the East Side of the mountain.
