Everyone else has pretty much said it all, but just want to say I am against the commission as well. Discrimination is already illegal, there are already many agencies that punish people that discriminate, this is anti-business, and finally this is a waste of money that C'ville doesn't have.

This ordinance would not apply to the university, hospitals or the city schools/government. This ordianance will apply to the construction and service industry employers in the area. The City's minority population is not competing with white people for these jobs. They are competing with the area's undocumented immigrants for these positions. Is the city really going to go after employers for hiring undocumented immigrants over our other citizens?

So very Charlottesville, isn't it? One can only watch in amazement and speculate as to their next money-wasting endeavor...

Show me any evidence that people are homeless for the SOLE reason that they were a victim of discrimination. Did you ever consider the possibility that someone doesn't want to rent to you because your previous 4 landlords could not give you a good reference after you didn't pay them? Or maybe it was because you were always throwing loud parties, disturbing the neighbors and destroyed the place? May be its because you have no steady source of income other than selling drugs? No one cares whether you are white, black, brown, zebra, or a little green man from Mars. If you have a history of not being a responsible renter, homeowner, employee, then don't expect opportunities to fall in your lap. And including convicted felons in the ordinance, you gotta be kidding? I suppose Wells Fargo will get sued if they don't hire a guy who did 10 yrs for bank robbery.
It is time for people to accept some responsibility for their own circumstances instead of always trying to claim that someone else is picking on them.
Wow! I couldn't have said it better myself. Thank you Twinmom!

Let's see if the infamous "race-baiter" himself, Rick Turner (the REVEREND, that is) gets this new job with the City. The only thing keeping the black man down is, well, other blacks!

In today's propaganda war, it's difficult to decipher between a belief and a joke. It most certainly was ridiculous enough to be a joke.

Carefull what you ask for, you might get it. No dought there will be hundreds of claims in the first month, most from angry black females. The city will cringe when this starts.

I say let the minorities have the city and watch the thing fold like a book! They'll have to call in the National Guard after 3 months...
Make that three days and even then the Guard will have all their vehicles stolen and up for sale on Craigslist.

Charlottesville is all about denial. Ask any NBC29 thread moderator. But which is more offensive, the truth or the two thirds of city adults that pay no federal income taxes and subsist on federal and state "programs"?

It is unfortunate that this story doesn't explain what the "commission" would actually DO. Maybe this is because City Council and its lawyer don't even know. If they attempt to exceed powers granted under their city charter, or try to create new law inconsistent with State law, they will be in big trouble. I hope the State Attorney General is keeping an eye on this.
