Show me any evidence that people are homeless for the SOLE reason that they were a victim of discrimination. Did you ever consider the possibility that someone doesn't want to rent to you because your previous 4 landlords could not give you a good reference after you didn't pay them? Or maybe it was because you were always throwing loud parties, disturbing the neighbors and destroyed the place? May be its because you have no steady source of income other than selling drugs? No one cares whether you are white, black, brown, zebra, or a little green man from Mars. If you have a history of not being a responsible renter, homeowner, employee, then don't expect opportunities to fall in your lap. And including convicted felons in the ordinance, you gotta be kidding? I suppose Wells Fargo will get sued if they don't hire a guy who did 10 yrs for bank robbery.

It is time for people to accept some responsibility for their own circumstances instead of always trying to claim that someone else is picking on them.

Let the witchhunt begin. But if we're going to do this, let's include "Political Discrimination" too...for which the all-Democrat City Council is a repeat offender.

Two more city jobs will be created---a director and an analyst---and each will pay roughly 90K a year. The few people in this town that actually work and pay federal income taxes should file discrimination suits against the city council.

The bum coddling city even put tables under the pavilion tent so the drunks can do their thing without offending the few clueless shoppers that persist in patronizing the downtown mall.
More than a few business owners will be relocating to Stonefields and other county sites.
As Margaret Thatcher said "The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money".

Feed The Poor?

The downtown mall types definitely seem more interested in the 40 ounce coolers at the nearby Seven store then they are in food.

Hey NBC29, make sure your new reporters that you hire about every six months learn the Cville scene very quickly by viewing the "wall of shame" at the Lucky Seven.

Yes dear moderator, the truth can be offensive indeed!

The "oppressed" seem at war with themselves between the drug shootings and the tragic number of abortions they have much more to fear than "whitey"

City council needs to get one thing straight in their heads: People are BORN with a race, a gender and (sorry Republicans but this is true) a sexual orientation.
People then DECIDE if they want to make something with their life. They decide if they want to drop out of school, do drugs/abuse alcohol, break the law, have a track record of bad job performance, etc.
It's wrong and in most cases, illegal to discriminate against what people are born with.
But, as others have pointed out, if you see a valid reason in someone's past to deny them a job or a rental or whatever, that's not worng, that's common sense.

It is unfortunate that this story doesn't explain what the "commission" would actually DO. Maybe this is because City Council and its lawyer don't even know. If they attempt to exceed powers granted under their city charter, or try to create new law inconsistent with State law, they will be in big trouble. I hope the State Attorney General is keeping an eye on this.

I say let the minorities have the city and watch the thing fold like a book! They'll have to call in the National Guard after 3 months...
