Wait, "we need to have them come explain to our residents some of these things that need to change."

Are you kidding me? How long does someone have to help themselves out? A decade? Two? How many violations of the grant (read that tax money for those who pay taxes) occurred? It's always been a joke in C'Ville. Heck, we have a "Homeless Hotel" and transplants from all over the East Coast because of the give-aways here.

No surprise given the agenda of the City Council.

HUD wants the city to explain why people have been getting a free ride at federal taxpayer expense...

CRHA board member Dave Norris also wears another as Councilman Dave Norris. As Councilman he has championed giving PHAR $50,000 a year. The question is did his heartily support for the yearly windfall have any influence upon PHAR's hiring him as a consultant to the tune of $9,200? Is it merely a coincidence that the amount of compensation is less than $10,000, the amount that state law says could initiate an inquiry into conflict of interest violations? Things seem to be cozy between Mr. Norris, CRHA, and PHAR.

It is laughable for Bob Stevens to demand that HUD come down and explain its reasoning directly to the residents.

Isn't management's job (and the board's job) to understand the rules and to interface with government agencies such as HUD? I'm sure it is not HUD's job to travel to communities nationwide and do the board's and managers' work for them.

I'd like to have a position of power and income without having to do the normal work required of the job.

Charlottesville's poverty programs may have some element of nobility, but that amount pales in comparison with the number of people who clamp onto the public teat for life - and the feather-bedding and incompetence the city displays on an operating basis in this agency.

The City Housing agency has shown incompetence for 20+ years. They can't even keep a leader. I don't know whether it is due to the quality of the people they hire for that job or the frustration that causes them to leave or self-destruct as they try to deal with demanding tenants and incompetent board members and other managers.

It's time for an overhaul, but you know that will never happen. As long as people keep making money for their failures, there's no reason to change.

Are you surprised?
Have they ever run anything but in the ground?
Haven't they lied, embesseled, denied, pointed fingers, given you the back door in every Gov agency in the USA?

I missed the part in the Constitution where it says taxpayers all over the country should be funding poor folks' housing in C'ville, let alone administering the program.

"We need to have them come explain to our residents why some of these things need to change," Stevens said.

Well Mr. Stevens, if you want to pay me $9000, I will gladly read and interpret the HUD rules and come and explain them to you. Or you can do your job and read them yourself.

gotta give this Dave Norris guy credit.
"consulting" have to love that

what consulting was that ?
I hope it was good for all

we consult with guys handling freight at Kennedy airport
every night .....and with excelllent results

why is our consultation called a racket and this guy is mr clean??

don't think that $
just below a look and examine level according to one comment.
very smart.

since norris is by no stretch of anyone's imagination
a public intellectual, he has no ideas in the marketplace.

he is in fact not much different than the guys who sit in the
back room of the pastry shop on 18th avenue in Bensonhurst .

sad people knock on the door , tell the man their problems
and pay to have it resolved ......

you pay in Brooklyn , you pay in Charlottesville
that's the debt of gratitude .....

at least in Brooklyn your problems are solved .
Norris took your money.....and these people got back very little .

Although what Dave Norris did may not be illegal it sure looks like a conflict of interest. This is just another example of one of our fine politicians who think they are untouchable.

I love it the consulting fee angle.
keeping it just below the radar is great.
the spokesperson for the poor and housing
mr norris left hand hasn't seen his right in years .

still won't disclose where 9200 dollars came from.

how to game the system by dave norris.
can you buy the book on amazon.?

a pied piper who fleeces those he claims to help.
what exactly did he consult about?
apparently it wasn't too successful.

assume that HUD will not do any more.

Don't get too upset norris, he has good company, Huja, who has in fact admitted, here on 29, to taking money from businesses in town. The piece appeared one evening and then disappeared.

Make it a fee, not a tax. Far easier to bilk the sheepal into paying fees. Us Democrats have to call our takings as fees so we can buy more votes and influence.
