Fantastic! It's about time we realize how important skilled workers are to the economy. How many political science, psychology, sociology, communications, exercise science, ethic studies etc majors do we really need? We need electricians, plumbers, skilled people to repair MRI machines, welders, etc! Stop trying to make everyone a politically, brainwashed robot that has to go to college. Additionally, if we do return to encouraging vocational/technical training, maybe those with the worthless degrees will have a better chance of getting a job!

I don't know.. for those prices, and classes that are only 8 or 16 hours between classroom and hands-on time? Sounds a little on the expensive side to me. Are these accredited college level classes? My son travels to Goochland to go to the J Sargent Reynolds Western Campus to take welding classes. They are college classes that last for weeks and weeks with lots of hands-on time and costs almost the same. It is cool that they have walk-in shop time though for $20.

There is a shortage and a demand for coded welders. I know pipe fitters and boiler makers that claim that they earn over $100K/Yr, and I believe them. I know the ones that travel can even make more. (One guy I know owns two shrimp boat operations.) It's not glamorous, it's hard and sometimes dangerous work, and it doesn't pay much to start. Every time we turn on a light, these people are part of the operation that makes it happen. There is nothing wrong with honest work, and not everyone is suited for academia.

Awesome! Nice to see a learning opportunity in "dying" trades like this. It saddened me greatly when CATEC shut down its' machine shop program. Now there is nowhere within this area code for young people to go and learn a great paying and rewarding career. I wish the Virgina School of Metal and its' students great success! The smell of fused metal reminds me of the smell of money!

Ya I agree sounds great, but really this is a washed up going broke business trying to drum up money. Teaching the trade is good, & some cost is valid, I saw this a month ago, on web, you also pay $10-$30 a pound for your metal to boot. But the enticement is your
opportunity to make & take home a masterpiece !
