The current system started out as a good idea, but every year they ask for more and more above and beyond their approved budget. Medical staff are the highest paid in the state and they have gotten use to gross mismanagement. On paper it looks like the inmates are getting the best care available, but that is not true. The problem is the legislature continues to let the citizens down and creating a new system is just a diversion.

What's next? Debtor Prisons for the middle class and poor? Privatization of any service must have an immediate reduction in taxes for citizens. When you privatize a service formerly paid for in taxes, why pay again to subsidize a private business owner??? What happens when you can't afford a service? No library books or fire and police, or ambulance services? If you voted for Republicans, you get ONLY what you pay for. INSANITY!

Why not just cut spending altogether for inmate care? Problem solved.

We should privatize our police departments, fire departments, and DPS while we're at it.

Good idea Finepix. They should put all criminals on an island somewhere and let them fend for themselves. Why should law abiding tax payers have to pay some company for inmate healthcare. All that is being created is another option where corrupt lawmakers can fill their bank accounts when the contract is awarded. Instead of Texas lawmakers trying to save money with an inmate healthcare privatization, have the person doing the time work and earn their own healthcare benefits. Put the prison labor to work in manufacturing and assembly work. Isn't that what they do in China and some other countries that are already kicking our economic butts.

"How the middle class became the underclass

Are you better off than your parents?

Probably not if you're in the middle class.

Incomes for 90% of Americans have been stuck in neutral, and it's not just because of the Great Recession. Middle-class incomes have been stagnant for at least a generation, while the wealthiest tier has surged ahead at lighting speed.

In 1988, the income of an average American taxpayer was $33,400, adjusted for inflation. Fast forward 20 years, and not much had changed: The average income was still just $33,000 in 2008, according to IRS data.

Meanwhile, the richest 1% of Americans -- those making $380,000 or more -- have seen their incomes grow 33% over the last 20 years, leaving average Americans in the dust....

One major pull on the working man was the decline of unions and other labor protections, said Bill Rodgers, a former chief economist for the Labor Department, now a professor at Rutgers University."

Republiscum/TeaParasites work to INCREASE JOBLESSNESS.

As expected they are trying to have NO JOBS until November 2012 in order to defeat Obama. They care only about their own power/money and not one whit about jobs for Americans.

"Cuts In House GOPís Continuing Resolution Could Drive The Unemployment Rate Up One Full Point ...

the package of spending cuts passed by House Republicans over the weekend will reduce economic growth by 1.5 to 2 percentage points in the next two quarters:...

Based on this relationship, the Republican CR could cause unemployment to shoot from 9 percent up to 9.7-10 percent."

Ronnie ChimpScum Reagan had Alzheimers while in office. His idiotic-ness created a massive psychosis for 30 blooming years.

This is why the USA is in the financial mess it is today. Remember that Maggie Thug Thatchbum also has Alzheimers.

Two Alzheimer-demented people created the ridiculous system we have suffered from. Could it have been any different?

Save the country, impeach a Repuliscum starting with Scalia and Thomas.
