I live a quarter of a mile where they are planning on putting in this rail yard. I really don't like the idea. Due to the fact that it is going to drop the property value. I don't disagree that we need jobs. I have an uncle that works for the railroad and what they will do is bring in their own people instead of hiring new. Now how is that creating jobs. Is anybody thinking about what this could do to the kids at New Market Elementy School. What about all that noise, should they just pack up and move too. What if there is a hazmat spill, those kids are as good as done. It is to close. There is no way that we could get those innocent children out in time. What about all the increase in traffic, the road around here are crouded enough, we don't need the increase truck traffic. Another depot mean more train engines idleing and more pollution. Thought this country was suppose to be trying to go green. Don't get me wrong I'm not a tree hugger but we don't need that here. The farm land is another thing. We keep developing it over time, what are we going to eat in the future. My point is find somewhere else like mascot, they already have a business park and it is very close to a main rail line. What would be wrong with that?

Any updates on this project? I wonder why this is the only site in east TN they are looking at? In my opinion the old Enka site in Morristown would be perfect for this facility. It's less than a mile form I-81 and the land is already zoned for industrial use. The only drawback I can see is the lack of a main railroad line in that area. The tracks are there, just not the main line. The citizens of Morristown would welcome NS and the jobs that it will bring to the area.

The ENKA property is heavily polluted and would take a super fund act to clean up, the site is not next to mainline. The land owners in New Market are still fighting to block any sales of any property in that county for business to come in. They do not want business in that part of Jefferson county. It is the only logical area to place a rail intermodal yard with adjoining industrial park.
