They don't set the prices, the big producers 'arabs' set production levels that drive availability up or down to control prices. The commodity market speculators buy options based on what the arabs are doing or thought to be doing. Thats why every time an arab farts in the wind the oil prices fluctuate. The US and State gubbmints do share a stake in the refined gasoline by taxing the living crud out of it driving the retail cost up by about a buck a gallon. The gubbmint could give immediate relief with a gas tax moratorium, but don't wait up wishing for that to happen.
