Where have all the movies gone? Beaufort seeks to lure film industry
Nearly everyone in Beaufort has a memory of being on set with movie stars or of seeing the Richard V. Woods Memorial Bridge and other local landmarks on the big screen, their home and way of life forever preserved in celluloid.

The Great Santini was filmed here in 1978 and released in 1979.
Another thing that changed during the movie era in Beaufort was the attitudes of the Beaufort residents and the influx of new residents (whom I call the permanent tourists). During the time movies were filmed here in the 70s, 80s and early 90s the locals pretty much left the filming crews alone. It was no big deal for us to see Barbra Streisand at the Steamer or Bruce Willis playing harmonica at Plums during the time his wife was filming a movie here. But by the time "Forces of Nature" was filmed here in 1998, the filming crews had to deal with crowd control in the Point because of the large number of gawkers.
