Again, for accuracy's sake, it's not the laws themselves, nor is it law enforcement's fault. It's the courts and prisons.

Prisons are way too overcrowded; therefore, those (like all of the Shepheards) that commit drug crimes and thefts get very lienient sentences. How many times was Malcolm Shepheard convicted of larceny before he was finally (recently) sentenced to actual prison time?

We have adequate (if antiquated) laws in Mississippi to cover the gamut of criminal activity, and punishments are clearly spelled out in each case. However, none of those laws do us any good if we don't punish offenders severely enough to deter them from committing the same crimes in the future.

From what I understand mentul, the jail has their own budget. They also house state and federal prisoners--and have agreed to house more in exchange for state/federal funding for the expansion. So, inother words, they get paid by the state/federal government for each of those prisoners, and they also get money to build more facilities.

I used to work with a former captain at the jail. He told me that Regional is a money-making machine.

And FYI, the city and county could apply for numerous grants to obtain additional officers and funding--they just have to do the legwork.

Yeah, but I read elsewhere on here that Cathy was slow getting grants concerning the police DEPT. Maybe Doug will correct that?

The sad thing is family, friends, and law enforcement all tell these same females repeatedly that they should get out of the abusive situation, because it will only get worse. Unfortunately, they always make excuses why they should stay with the abuser.
I bet it never crossed their mind he would kill them.I left an abusive marriage with small children and was stalked for many years afterwards. But u can get away. These men will not change and it will only get worse. If u have to struggle and think u can't do it,u can.
