Syria's clever dictator works the US media
IT WAS 1978 and at the end of my first day of classes, I walked into the student centre at the University of Rhode Island.

how does someone not even living in Syria Claim to know what the Syrian People want or do not want, Syria is a country known for its revolutions and if the people wanted change with all that is going in the mideast they would go to the streets and demand change, change is occurring in Syria but a a slower pace and to blame is the embargo's that have been placed on the country because it does not accept to be a puppet to foreign rules.
I am confident that when time is right change will happen peacefully.

Zeenat Khan is replete with hatred for and ignorance of Syria. With an American media dominated by pro-Israeli reporting, Walters is not the exception. Syria has been a target for American interference since the late 1940s. As the Cold War heated up, Syria tried to remain neutral. This did not please Washington. Add to it the Arab-Israeli struggle and the division of interests increase. To offset the arms we gave to Israel, Syria had to turn to the Soviet Union. This did not make Syria a puppet. The 1975 Lebanese civil war saw Syria, with American and Israeli approval, move against a coalition of forces that had Soviet backing. In 1990, Syria aligned itself with the US in the first Gulf War. It attended a peace conference that we sponsored. In 2000, Syria was ready to sign a peace agreement with Israel. It was Israel that backed out. The neocons drew up a game plan for the Middle East that was directed at insuring Israel hegemony. Syria was at the top of the list. In the aftermath of the 2003 invasion of Iraq, their influence in Bushs administration pushed us towards war with Syria. Only the deterioration of the Iraq war prevented the attack. Now, Americas partners in the Middle East are undergoing turmoil. Tunisia and Egypt have seen change of leaders. Yemen and Bahrain have bloodshed in the streets. Jordan and Saudi Arabia are using overt and covert actions to keep a lid on there. The countries we want to see blow up, like Syria, have not done so yet. Therefore, the pro-Israeli front in the US are going out of their way to do everything and anything to cause an explosion in Syria. However, the lowest of these media attacks is the outcry over Mrs. Assads appearance in Vogue. The neocons and the pro-Israeli front in the US have brought us a decade of death and debt. But, there is always the call for more. Americas foreign policy in the Middle East is a failure. And Khan and his ilk cannot change in spite of all the propaganda they spew.
