Contest to send air potatoes to final roundup
On this warm, weekend morning, hundreds of people will travel to Northeast Florida parks to attack a plant the state calls a noxious weed. Bring the kids, say organizers, who turned a chore into a contest, promising prizes for plucking the biggest specimens. Welcome to the First Coast Air Potato Roundup, a day devoted annually to stripping hundreds of pounds of tubers from vines that can choke Floridas native plants to death.
