I just discovered that I was scammed. Two months ago I was approached in Papillion, NE's Hy-Vee parking lot by a "college student" selling magazines. I have never bought anything before from someone who approached me, I am not a trusting person, and am careful with my money. That day, however, was a couple of days before Father's Day and I didn't have a gift yet for my husband. I had my 14 month old son with me at the time, groceries I'd just unloaded into the car, and it was warm outside but I decided to take the time to look at the guy's pamphlet. I've lived in the Omaha area for 7 years and every year have had at least 2 sometimes 3 of these college students stopping by my house, but I've always declined to buy. If this was the first time I'd been approached, I definitely would have sent him on his way. But he said the exact same thing all of the others have said, had all of the same materials, and a card that was supposedly his proof. He wasn't a quality guy by any means - he was a typical sales guy and so the only time I was suspicious is when I decided to pay him. He wanted cash. My total was $76 (which was more than what he'd originally told me but he said it was a long subscription). I told him I don't carry cash. I was about to say goodbye but then he said a check was fine...so I wrote him a check.

A month later I was expecting my husband to recieve his first issue and when he didn't we checked our bank statement and noticed the check had been cashed. We decided to give it another month. That's when this morning my husband said, "Do you think you were scammed?" I got online and have found all sorts of sites confirming this. I am sickened. I'm going to look further into which guy (I don't think it was any of those listed in the KETV news story)- he should be ordered by law to give me my money back.
