What is family? Study explores how children of gay parents overcome stigma

There are 5 comments on the newsroom.unl.edu story from Aug 8, 2013, titled What is family? Study explores how children of gay parents overcome stigma. In it, newsroom.unl.edu reports that:

How do children of gay and lesbian parents create a positive family identity in a culture where negative messages can drown others out and tell them their family dynamic is wrong?

A forthcoming study by Diana Breshears and Dawn O. Braithwaite provides clues into how those children can solidify a positive family identity.

From the article:

'... "The children were not upset that their parents are gay," Breshears said. "In fact, most of them embraced it. The negativity that children with gay parents experience is rarely the result of having gay parents. Instead, it's the cultural stigma that causes all the problems." ...'

Says it all.

Family is a mother, father and their children. Anything else is make-believe.

Maybe next time some doctorate endowed Ivory Tower researchers can study how it feels to be straight, like me, to desperately want children to parent and to be denied adoption without a legally supportable reason? There's a worthy, albeit a politically incorrect in Nebraska, study!

Maybe a mom or dad with gray hair is too damaging to the self esteem of children to even contemplate?

Since lesbians and homosexuals constitute some 1% to 3% of the population, spending money on examining the self esteem of children adopted by them (or perhaps born to them...???) seems much worthier than on the self esteem of the 99% to 97% of children in foster care.

When I win the lottery, I think I will spend some money studying the impact of unadopted children on society. And perhaps also on trying to measure how angry worthy potential parents become when they cannot adopt children and many children are supposedly available for adoption (or at least, foster care).

Seems just as smart a topic as gay or transgendered parents impact on child self esteem. Remove stigma and pain from one group and place it another set of majority individuals-- real progress Nebraska!

Equally important is a family of the same racial group.
A white couple (pop stars included) with a black status symbol baby is also not a family.
