Simple answer really:

Their entire and tiny understanding of the world is based on faith, the ones so scared of atheists have such weak faith that anyone challenging it are perceived as threats.

In other words, the zealots know they're wrong and can't admit it.

Good article. And good summation.

Any believer who gets angry or defensive when some aspect of their belief system is challenged or questioned knows that their beliefs are a house of cards. And our challenges are wrecking balls.

Because people are to afraid to think for themselves so they have to allow a 2000 year old fairy tale that promises them an afterlife to tell them what to do.

It's simple - they are stupid.

Stupid people fear what they cannot understand.

They reject anything mildly intellectual and wear it like a badge of honour.

The kicker is that this chosen path of stupidity makes them feel like they are superior to others.

Well, the stupidity only comes later. Most theists are indoctrinatrd from birth, and that amounts to brainwashing. I have a hard time calling someone like that stupid. Stupidity comes along after they are exposed to logic and reason, but still refuse to think for themselves. When asked to explain, or to think beyond their indoctrination, the stupidity comes out. Usually in the form of hatred, and venom.

Atheism negates many people's infantile notion that the universe was created for and revolves around humans. For some people that is scary. They need the security blanket of religion.

Atheism: The arrogant belief that the entire universe with its billions of galaxies was not created for us.

Christian fundamentalism: the doctrine that there is an absolutely powerful, infinitely knowledgeable, universe spanning entity that is deeply and personally concerned about my sex life.

Are you insane?

The concept that we are not the reason for the universe' existence is anything but arrogant.

From thread article: "And those inclined to atheism .."
I am not inlcined to atheism. I simply think that one should only believe anything as far as it can be justified by reason and evidence. I note that no Christian can seem to support that statement and I'm not surprised.

I'm giving up describing myself as atheist or agnostic, if I can. Simpler to say that I'm not a religionist.

Oh, I missed the fact that it was a joke. Satire is often lost on me so excuse my ignorance on humor. ;)

I have been called an ice queen for this reason and you are welcome to refer to me as one anytime I miss a joke.

I think it's because it's so embedded so deep within those who believe that once they admit to themselves that it all is just a convenience everything the believe in falls apart. It's not easy to admit to living a lie.

It's off the self thinking. It's much more convenient to explain things away simply by saying "God" or "It says in the bible" and the best of all, to justify all the crappy way you treat others because again "The bible says so".

Why think of things myself when it's easier to cherry pick a bible verse and hid behind that as justification?

That is the mindset and once questioned, fear and aggression and their defenses arise.

Historically, atheism (loss of respect for the gods) has always led to immorality and the downfall of the culture. So there is very good reason to fear atheists. One can see this increase in immorality right here, just look at the incivility of the posts by atheists.

You're a theist liar. Atheism is a lack of belief in god.

If atheists respected gods, that would mean that they believed in them. However atheists don't believe in god.

So you are deliberately trying to misrepresent atheism and lie to people about what it is.

You need to go back to your cult and re-organise your lies again.

Their only defence at the moment seems to be lying about what atheism actually is.

It's all they've got after all - no proof of their own bulsh*t so they try to attack established facts.

They attack simply because some questions their god and dares them to think for themselves and face a lie.

Your definition of atheist is wrong. The rest of your post is not even close to factual. If someone should be feared, it is lying theists like you.
