Put it in the hospital that way the addicts will be where they should be in order to detox off the methodone. I hear its worse than detoxing off herion.

Stop wasting money on these "clinics" all together. They are in no way any part of a recovery program. Methodone in nothing more than legal heroin. I know someone who went to one of these so called clinics while pregnant. They were even considerate enough to give her a month worth or "medication" at a time so she would not have to travel to Camden everyday for her "treatment". I was absolutely disgusted. She took this crap through her entire pregnancy. Delivered early (not exactly a surprise considering) and then the baby had to be given morphine to help him with the pain of detoxing off the methidone. Because methidone is a legal drug, this was somehow ok with the clinic and the hospital where she delivered. As far as I'm concerned, anyone who takes any "medication" like this and risks a baby's life and subjects this baby to the pain of detoxing should be charged with child abuse. But that's not the case. As long as the mother is taking the legal heroin its ok....disgusting!

hey you know what. do you think it would have been better if that mother actually did do heroin insted of methadone? however i do think that is th ecase because i have known a few wemon that needed methadstuffone while pregnant and their babies were deliverd healthy wiht no withdrawl symptoms. Usually the babies wih these SYmptoms were resulting formthe mother continuing illegal drug use while pregnant. granted i am sure many drug addicts will use methadone in an inncorrect manner but what about the few that actually need it to get the hell away from other drugs. PS what do you think oxycodon and percocet and all those pain pills are.....same stuff! And a lot of the people that are inthe methadone program are resulting form jack ass doctors prescribing those kinds of medication to patients unaware of the consequencces! so before you start jusdging things programs and people, know what you are talking about first!

This same mother took herion during her first pregancy and sure enough her little girl was born early and had to be detoxed off herion...also not a pretty site. I think you were misinformed when you stated that you know someone who took meth during her pregancy and had a full term healthy baby who did not need to detox. If the crap goes in the mothers body, it also goes into the babys!
The hospital even had a special tag on the baby's crib in the hospital to clearly state that he was a meth baby. If your friend took meth during her pregancy the baby had to detox or continue to take meth. Check with any medical person on this one and you will find out that this is TRUE.

I am a methadone client myself, and you all can easily judge someone who is on it. And Yes just to let you know, there have been cases when methadone did not pass the placenta and the baby did not receive any and did not have to be detoxed. This is very rare, but it does happen. And all of you who judge, until your family is truly affected by opiate addiction or any kind of addiction for that matter, would be grateful and thanking god they had a place to take thier loved one. It is so easy to judge, but when you are the one personally affected, I gaurantee your comments will be different.

There is nothing ignorant nor narrow minded about the fact that that meth is nothing but a legal substitution for herion.

After reading all the responses to my comments I was absolutely disgusted to see how many narrow minded self centered people responded.

I was judging the clinics not the people who are unfortunate enough to have to go to them. So to those who took me personally, get over yourself, I wasn't putting YOU down, I was putting down the clinics.

There are entirely too many drugs dispensed in this country. Legally and illegally.(True some are needed to save lives but I am not referring to them.)

Between the pharmicutical companies pushing drugs on the doctors (with benifits) and the doctors so willing to dispense drugs, then more drugs to counteract the first drug and the commercials on tv that advertise drugs for everything, not to mention the illegal drugs, there's no wonder there is a drug problem in this country.

Since no one seemed to understand me from my first entry I will simpify it.

There are already too many drugs in this country, can't we come up with a solution to drug problems without using another drug.

To those on any drug I hope the Lord gives you the strength to get off whatever it is.

I was leagally prescribed painkillers for Endometriosis for 10 years, was in debilitating pain most of the time, after 4 major operations and still in pain my doctor recommeded I go to a methadone clinic. I was going to one right up the block from wehre I live and they were forced to shut thier doors due to ignorance from the community, now I have to travel over a hour to a seedy part of NJ, that makes me very angry like this topic, nobody wants a clinic in there area. Yes there are abusers at my clinic but for ppl like me who just need to take this stuff to feel normal it is a slap in the face when you hear.....not in my neighborhood. I personally have never done anything illegal in my life* A drug addcit on heroin would more likey rob and hurt you than a patient on methadone. Also yes illegal drugs and prescription drugs run rampant in America but shutting down clinics is not the answer!

Methadone saved my wife's life, she had such severe abdomail pain and was treated like crap by her OB/GYN, our family doctor suggessted she give methadone a try & she is back to being my happy wife, not being in horrific pain all the time. I say bravo to methadone!

"As far as I'm concerned, anyone who takes any "medication" like this and risks a baby's life and subjects this baby to the pain of detoxing should be charged with child abuse. "

straighttalk, this is quoted from your very first post. I didn't bother looking for your judgments in your other posts, but please don't say you were not judging the people when clearly you were.

It's so easy to judge other people but it takes a fairly intelligent person to look beyond what they hear from gossip etc. and do the research themselves before they make a decision about something.

Methadone saves lives. Sure, there will be some who don't follow the program like they are suppose to, but it still saves lives. Mine included.

As far as pregnant women taking methadone: imo it is way better for a pregnant woman to be a patient in a methadone maintenance program than to be doing street drugs for obvious reasons! I've known several women who have given birth to healthy, full term, normal babies while on methadone so please...like I said: do the research straighttalk!

I know this is a very, VERY late response to this thread, but I just couldn't help it. These kinds of ignorant, judgmental opinions must stop.

I have Endometriosis (if u even know what that is?) and suffered horrendous pain for years before a OB/GYN finally did major surgery on me 4 times and kept me painless during and after the operations, if you can't relate, good 4 you but some ppl NEED methadone like me.. and I am NOT drugged up honey.....I am in a lot less pain however....what goes around honey....it could happen to you(addiction)so watch out!!!:0

I support the Methadone clinic. Wish it was located @ Broadway & Monmouth Sts., easier to
get public transportation. Why anyone is against
the program's location is beyond me. Most convenient stores, liquor stores sell "Drug Para"
products in the City, so why not have a convenient
located clinic to offer help for those children
who want help overcoming obsticals.
