I Think we better save our betel nut, so our future generation will have something to depend on for their living...Start planting new plants and prevent outsiders from destroying them.

Its about time!! Betel nut damage to my teeth and gum's cost me over $2,000.00 to fix. Dang, that bill killed me, and it is a part of my culture!!! The B-nut is just another nasty habit. I spent over $300.00 a month on that junk along with the leaf, tobacco, lime, cigarettes. Was hooked on that stuff for over 15 years!!! Imagine what I could have done with the extra money!!! But, I SPIT IT ALL AWAY. Micro-brothers and sisters, cut the crap, betel nut is something we can live without. If all the chewers stopped chewing there wouldn't be so much complaints on "not enough money"! Culture or not its just nasty, seeing spit everywhere!!! If your honest, you know I am speaking the truth. And if you don't, then your a liar!!! You need Jesus!!!

yes, it is part of our culture.. and it's nasty and all but we all don't have to chew if we don't like... chew if you have a land with betelnut trees... don't chew because your friends chew.. it will stain your teeth and you have to pay for your teeth to be clean.. keep your teeth clean but just always have the micronesian pride in your heart... all the unique culture we have..

I don't think that betel nut itself is that harmful. People often use tobacco with betel nut and many studies have shown tobacco to be the culprit.

At any rate, you don't have to chew betel nut. Have you ever tried an extraction or an oil? I would suggest such. This way you get all of the positive effects without the chewing and risk!
